I'd say the favorites are France, Spain, England and Portugal. But I also don't write off Germany and Italy, both historically very tournament driven countries. Im from the Netherlands, and though I have hopes, I see us go untill the quarter final to be eliminated by Portugal once again.

Portugal because they are maybe the most complete national team and at their top of form and experience, with a little bit of luck they can win it in my opinion... Germany have a great squad with players like Wirtz Kroos Musiala Neuer great mixture between old and experienced and young and hungry for winning what a team needs plus the home ground and fans. France is weaker for sure, England is always there but when they have to grab it they bottle it for me Southgate is not what this awesome generation of footballers need to win something. So Portugal or Germany in my opinion!

I agree with the comments that say that favorites rarely win, and that is because a team is not just an addition of good players. Because playing for your nation is not the same as playing for your professional team.
All that having been said, the match against Austria shows France does have team cooperation, does not have a weak defense, has a strong middle field and surprisingly ( considering the presence of Mbappe etc) actually lacked finishing luster. But these tournaments are as much about impassable defense as about offensive scoring. Deschamps' national teams regularly get the best out of players. France had the same kind of loss of their winning spirit that happened to England vs France in the world cup when France in turn played against Argentina. The French retrieved isaid spirit in the last 10 minutes, so they have that capacity to react.
In other words, this is a truly competitive favorite, not just on paper: the French team is not just a list of outstanding players ( which is how I still perceive England).
I have watched so many competitions where pundits say : " THIS time, England will win " and they lose and where people say " the German team is not up to Parr, " and they win.
The French team always COULD win, and sometimes does. And on the European cup, the dark horse often wins - Spain?
So as a French fan, I NEVER say France will win.
I am just proud to have a team that always makes the matches interesting and often exciting.
