I guess I got lucky when I stayed Nusa Lembongan, while shippies was crowded most days. One morning I got up early to get a boat out to shiipwrecks but the fishing boats said no and told me to wait and watch. Some sets rolled in and they were closing out across the gap between razors and shipwreck so the boats couldn't get through the channel. so me and a mate decided to check out playgrounds despite the size of the swell and being a lowish tide. Holy smokes the beginner playgrounds become a barreling beast, just me and a mate on it for a couple of hours, until my leg rope snapped and I got sucked out to sea in the viscous currents that were happening with a big swell ... but that is a whole other story lol

Pretty much the only 'whats it actually like to surf in Bali' explanatory vid I've ever found. Most are just a wankery of totally sick brah yeew! goons telling you nothing about the breaks, the place or the crowds.

The current shippies shipwreck was a materials transport brage heading to Nusa Penida, got towed a bit too close to the reef during a massive storm about 1.5 to 2 years ago. I surfed it June last year when it still had its complete hull, it was making a bit of a refraction wave which added a different level of trickiness to time take offs from the main or wide peaks. I mostly boogie the right at playgrounds these days, very fun at about 4-6ft 2 hours after high tide, bit easier to get waves there when bigger because the kooks gotta hang wide haha

Crowded spot is just the results of all the video speaking about the quality of life and surf In Nusa Lembongan. And you are just one more people to speak about this island .
And this is the high season now, In January there is less people.

Love the video and your channel Dan! You mentioned teaching english online, did you take a TEFL course? Do you have any advice about finding an online job that is similar? Thanks :)

Only been once and beautiful though it is I believe it is overrated. So tide dependent that only a few hours in the cycle get good and everybody on them. Playgrounds was ridiculous, so many people fighting to get into waves over shallow coral.

Surfed Ship wrecks in 2016, bugger all people and pumping barrels...things have changed by the sounds of it. There was no crane back then.

Been there a couple of times. First time I was there, there was no electricity until 4 in the afternoon (about 25 years ago) and everything was quiet. But like every nice spot, I guess it gets discovered and more and more crowded.
Snorkeling around nusa penida (island next to it) is awesome.

Couldn’t never go back looks like a shitfight now .Spent so much time there in the late 80s and 90s . Shippies was a heavy hollow wave the wave i remember it and when it was pretty solid you’d get sucked out into the impact zone always No one surfed razors and lassos was the jewel of the island . Just the old little boats one motor having to cruise up the coast an hour if the tide was cranking to slip across the channel, the locals spuhan up getting sea sick if there was swell . Mainski and Agungs the main places along with a couple of others gee those were the days

Went there about 10 years ago. Playgrounds was chest high and only 4 others apart from me out. Sadly they were Brazilian and worked as a team to keep me off every single wave that came through and dropped in on every wave that i had priority for
