Winter alone does not explain what happened to Napoleon's Army in Russia for very specific reasons...

Russia definitely knew what they were doing when they decided to use a completely different rail standard than literally everyone else

I like this since many "historical" accounts on tiktok and even in youtube spreading false information

I love how everyone like “the cold stopped the invaders” oh but it wouldn’t stop the Russians. I didn’t know cold discriminates.

The interesting fact is that everyone knows about the mongol expansion and conquest of the Russian principalities. But people tends to ignore when Russia united under Moscow and reverse mongoled the mongols all the way to the Pacific, using pretty much the same tactics.

You can love or hate Russians but you cannot disrespect their military history and their military successes.

One of the most important reasons for this was poor strategic planning. The Germans had no satisfactory long-term plan for the invasion. They mistakenly assumed that the campaign would be a short one, and that the Soviets would give in after suffering the shock of massive initial defeats.

it infuriates this misconception that the cold doesn't harm the Russians themselves

Some people never think that is the problem, yes it was the coldest winder in 150 years in 1941. (by coincidence since 1812. when Napoleon invaded 😆), but it was the same temperature for the Russians as it was for the others. Most Russians and other Soviets don't live in Siberia and are not more used to it that Germans, Scottish, Canadians or Bulgarians for example.

Great work, a video on the Spanish-American War would be much appreciated.

People always forget that tge russians/soviets in ww2 still had to fight under those cold conditions. Its not like they have a build in jeater or something, still thousands upon thousands froze but still they kept on fighting. Saying its solely general winter is solely to downplay their skills and fighting capabilities

It is known for certain that there was a big difference in the uniforms of the German and Russian armies. The memories of the Germans who fought in the winter in the battle of Moscow have been preserved. They wrote that they did not have winter equipment and during the frost they felt as if they "had no clothes at all." I quoted the words from a letter from a German soldier.

The harsh winters exacerbate the logistical problems long supply lines create. So winter is a factor.

Winter plays a big part yes. But the thesis that "the winter stopped Napoleon and Germany Oogabooga" is just popular history garbage. Whenever i hear someone say that i just ask why they belive that and they can never give a good answer. I mean the reason why Germany suffered in the east during the winters was because of the trains not being able to operate, not even barely during the summer.

You are 100 percent correct in this. Members of my family who fought in operation Barbarosa said this exactly and also the ability of Russians to endure..
