County Durham's 300 acre open air museum of Beamish should be on anyone's England bucket list - it is THE place to feel like you've travelled back in time but also a genuine labour of love of the whole region. With items being gifted to the museum over the decades by people living in North of England, this museum is as authentic as it gets!

Join me for my Beamish vlog to see if this is something you should add to you UK travel itinerary! We'll be spending the whole day here, trying out some of the historically accurate food, visiting the pit ponies and elusive squirrels, and also feeling like we're main characters in a Jane Austen novel. Yay!

As a kid I took places like Beamish and York for granted, it's only now I'm older that I realise what treasures they are. I'm glad you got to visit and enjoy it yourself.

I’m 60 now and I remember as a schoolboy we went on a day trip to Beamish museum, there wasn’t a great deal then and we had to take packed lunches 😊 I’ve been many times since and it’s definitely worth a visit 👍🏻

The Christmas evening events at beamish are amazing, it’s like stepping into Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol, absolutely magical and definitely fills you full of Christmas spirit. It’s my favourite time of year to visit and can’t recommend it enough!

Can't wait to go back, the 1950s area looks like it'll be fascinating!

At one time a visit to Beamish was a half day visit. It needs three days now as they add actual buildings from the area brick by brick. Never be afraid to ask questions as the staff remember things from their childhood or parents tales. It is truly a living museum keeping not only buildings but preserving our Northern memories and culture.

If you like Beamish, I'd recommend Cragside. It's mostly Victorian, and being Armstrong's house, it includes some early electrical technology, as well as being the first house to be powered by hydroelectricty! The gardens are also really nice.

Wow, you found another gem that I never knew about. Looks like an amazing way to spend a day, the line "it's like Disneyland for people who actually kinda dislike everything about Disneyland" really made me interested! 😂

That was fab. I'm so pleased you enjoyed Beamish. We live just 15 mins away and it's a magical place. We actually drove past there today on the way back from Edinburgh no less!

It has been so long since I've been here it's literally like travelling back in time to the early 20th century, I love seeing the sweets and bread being made in the sweet shop and bakery it's very authentic

Do not blame the locals for their parkas and waterproofs, every single time I have gone to Beamish it has poured. Count yourself so lucky that you got a good day! We have had quite a wet and windy summer so far.
