The area around Îles d'Hyères is simply stunning. The island of Porquerolles has been on our radar for a long time having heard many stories. The town at the port is great, with some Caribbean vibes and the rest of the island looks pretty green from the sea.

Port-Cros was a big surprise as well, with a tiny village and not much else - naturally, being a nationally protected park. The bay of Port Man on the other side of the island was my favourite anchorage. A bay that is surrounded by green forests down to the water's edge. Some island vibes on this one as well...

We paid a visit to Saint Tropez. It is what it is (to coin a phrase)... This visit was to show Kinga's family the town and try to unravel some of the mystique behind it. Yes - it's cool, but the 'edginess' kind of wears off (but that's personal).

Lavandou was a short visit. We anchored a couple hundred metres off the beach and had a view of the old beachfront hotels giving off a very 70's vibe 🕺😀. We decided to move on (partly due to a growing bamboo slick coming through) and head for anchoring off Giens. This offers good swimming and access to the shore...

On our final day, we crossed over to Porquerolles to refuel and headed back to the port of Toulon. What awaited us was a monsoon scale hurricane of epic proportions. Okay - maybe not that big, but it was pretty epic beating into two-metre waves and a force six gale! A great way to end the week...

Lagoon 40: This 40' catamaran is positioned as a 12 person boat. This seems quite a squeeze in my humble opinion although it has four double berths and two singles plus a couple can bunk in the salon.
We were seven aboard the boat. It was comfortable with plenty of space and we didn't seem to get in each other's way. A big outside space for our meals, a large interior salon with two fridges (one of which for the beer 😉) and four interior double berths with a 'head' in each. At the bow, there are two further single berths accessible from the outside.
The front of the boat has a large area with a 'trampoline' for chilling and working on that tan... The outside bridge gives a good position to pilot the boat and you can park off on the roof (watch for that mainsail swinging around though... The bridge may seem a little exposed, and there is a lack of a wheel inside the salon although the radio and auxiliary switches can be found there. The chart table in the salon seems like a bit of a waste of space though. This might have been done differently to maximise the usable area inside.

Off the back hangs a small dingy (four-person) with a tiny 2HP motor. Just enough to get some headway in a strong wind...
The Lagoon's engines are (I'm guessing) 40-50HP each. This was enough to get forward motion to the tune of 5 knots against the waves. They seem enough, but no more than that. It is a sailing boat after all... On that topic, the mainsail and genoa are not overscaled but are good for a charter application. I guess there are people out there that do not have too much experience, so you need to protect the boat! However, there are motorised winches at the pilot station, which (I would assume) makes this a one-man operation.
All-in-all it is a good boat. It can take a knock in heavy waves. It is comfortable on board. The finishings are good enough. It seems to be easy to handle, and it serves as a great platform for swimming, sailing, diving and exploring the blue waters of the Med... Now, where did I put that spare half a million?
