My son will be 16 in July. He’s golfed with me at times throughout his life, but he’s always been interested in a lot of other things. Last March, he caught the golf bug. Big time. I agree, i'm the only one I know who does this, but I hover the club just above the ball because you want to hit the ground in front of the ball not behind it. only time I ground it is on driver shots.
