When a jaguar pounces, sometimes one bite is all it takes to get a meal. National Geographic has exclusive video of a jaguar taking down a caiman in Brazil's Pantanal wetlands, photos of which went viral earlier this month. Luke Dollar, a conservation scientist who helps manage National Geographic's Big Cats Initiative, explains the hunt and explosive moment of predation.

That Jaguar snatched up that crocodile like it owed him money.

The Jaguar is able to swim and get out of the water silently to hunt another predator. That's actually crazy.

As a Brazilian, I'm so proud of jaguars. They're our biggest cats, close relative to lions, leopards and tigers. Such amazing animals 😻

That is incredible. The completely silent swimming, then that lightening fast attack and dispatch of the prey, wow!

It is absolutely beautiful that we still have a preserved ecosystem where we can witness this! Good job Brazil!

I like how this video starkly shows the evolutionary advantage of being warm blooded - the cayman were sunning themselves on that sandbar to gain enough energy to be able to move and hunt later on in the day, making them highly vulnerable; the jaguar on the other hand is ready to go anytime, anywhere.

Bro the way it zoned in on the target, calculated every movement carefully, stealthily moved into position and then executed the takedown with such perfect technique... That's a thing of beauty. Jaguars are dope
