First time hearing Alice Cooper - Poison

Today, I’m diving into Alice Cooper’s iconic track “Poison” for the very first time! As someone who’s only vaguely familiar with the rock legends, this is definitely a new experience. Cooper’s got that distinctive sound and style, and I’m here to find out why “Poison” has such a hold on rock fans everywhere. Let’s go back to the 80s, get into that hard rock vibe, and see if it lives up to the hype!

What's the worst part of this hell?
I can only blame myself

'Cause I know you're poison
You're feedin' me poison
Addicted to this feelin', I can't help but swallow
Up your poison
I made my choice, and
Every night I'm livin' like there's no tomorrow

Back in his heyday, Alice Cooper tours used to have simulated torture, executions, decapitations, etc. which is where he got his shock rock persona from. I don't know if he still has that today. I’ve never seen him in concert, I'm ashamed to say.

Hi Diane, Chewie! Great song. I remember when he had his first big hit "Eighteen", back in the early '70s. He's consistently put out good music and always has a great band backing him up.
Hug's to you and Chewie, ❤ love you, Diane! Bye for now.

My all time favorite artist. He always puts on an awesome show. If you get the chance see him. I remember seeing this video when it first came out and was stunned. I also recommend reading his book "Golf Monster". Still rocking today.

I've seen Alice Cooper twice before in concert. He puts on a damn good show, if I do say so 🤘

This song traces back to the time in my life when I was not listening to music. This is different from what I expected. The end of the 80's.

If you are partial to warped and twisted lyrics and themes, with some innuendoes and double entendres thrown in, you've come to the right place!

Although Cooper has a passel of truly excellent songs, these are the ones that stand out for me:

"I'm Eighteen"
"Ballad of Dwight Frye"
"Under My Wheels"
"School's Out"
"Elected"
"Billion Dollar Babies"
"No More Mr. Nice Guy"
"Welcome to My Nightmare"
"Department of Youth"
"Cold Ethyl"
All of the "Alice Cooper Goes to Hell" album
All of the "From the Inside" album
All of the "Flush the Fashion" album

👍

Originally this was written (and is about) his battle with addiction, which it is easier to see in the lyrics once you know. Allegorized beautifully with a dangerous sexual attraction, it does convey the mental struggle with addition well I think.

He had quite a few good records. I think "Poison" is my favorite of them all.

This was his most successful song, but not necessarily his best. You have probably heard his earlier classics like *"School's Out", "I'm Eighteen" and "No More Mr. Nice Guy"* They have a much more organic rock and roll sound. This one is very polished and a bit over-produced.

The Alice Cooper band was formed in the peace love generation. They didn't want to be the same. So the band became the evil shot punch in the mouth. Check out the songs Welcome to my Nightmare and the Ballad of Dwight Frye for a taste of real Alice. P.S love your video reactions.

Since you like this song, can I recommend some other 80's rock hits. I'd like to introduce you to the power ballad.
Motley Crue - Home Sweet Home
Poison - Every Rose Has It's Thorn
Lita Ford and Ozzy Osbourne - Close My Eyes Forever

You look like the actress Caity Lotz who was on the show Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow.
