Thai Airways International Flight 311 (TG311/THA311) was a flight from Bangkok, Thailand's Don Mueang International Airport to Kathmandu, Nepal's Tribhuvan International Airport. On Friday, 31 July 1992, an Airbus A310-304 on the route, registration HS-TID, crashed on approach to Kathmandu. At 07:00:26 UTC (12:45:26 NST; 14:00:26 ICT), the aircraft crashed into the side of a mountain 37 kilometres (23 mi) north of Kathmandu at an altitude of 11,500 ft (3,505 m) and a ground speed of 300 knots (560 km/h; 350 mph), killing all 113 passengers and crew members on board. This was both the first hull loss and the first fatal accident involving the Airbus A310.

I think it must be a common rule in aviation that, when someone says "The terrain warning is just a false alarm, " you know you are going to die soon.

The wreckage of that crash is still there at Nepal’s Langtang National Park. This was also the first fatal crash of an Airbus 310.

Just yesterday - flames were seen coming from an Atlas Air cargo plane's left wing before making an emergency landing in Miami, and further up the coast an AA passenger flight slid off the runway and ended up in the grass at Kennedy airport. The universe is trying to make sure Allec always has material for his videos.

There was that glimmer of hope when the captain initially decided to divert, just to have it ripped away.
Exploring musical options I noticed. I’m still a fan of the classic audio, but I’m glad you’re confident in evolving.

The captain was making the right calls, deciding to divert because of the flap issue, going around when he saw they were high, not rushing at all.
And suddenly the terrain warning, in IMC, surrounded by mountains, and with poor ATC services... He called false alarm.
In that overall situation it would have been common sense to apply TOGA and pull the nose up! 🤦

I literally facepalmed at just how atrocious these pilots did at doing their jobs, in addition, the controller's professionalism left quite a bit to be desired

If your instinct tells you to divert to Calcutta, divert to Calcutta.

Well, there's always the old fashioned analog compass atop the dashboard. They still have those, don't they? A quick glance would have told them they were heading north.

You’d think that one place where you wouldn’t ignore a Terrain warning is Nepal!

Hey Allec, been your viewer for a very long time. I used to use my mother's account when watching your videos, which is why this is a comparatively young account.

I was around 8 or 9 when I first watched your videos. Now, I'm 14 and I still watch them. Your videos still give off that vibe that I remember from when I was 8, and I enjoy that. Thanks so much for creating content for so long, Allec. This is the type of content I morbidly love.

videos and documentaries are so amazing. I've learned so much of this man. He has told so many people that fly a lot of things that could happen

Hopefully the aviation infrastructure has improved in Nepal since 1992 😳

That airport is the LAST place you would want to be without radar given the logistical constraints. How many times have we seen a captain not acknowledge what the aircraft was telling him? Very tragic for all involved.
