Good advice JJ. The only other thing that is worth mentioning when jacked up near the rail is that stroking downward on the cue ball may cause it to be slightly be air borne when it contacts the object ball and contact the object ball slightly above where you intended causing you to miss pocketing the ball.

I’ve always considered deflection only when using right or left english. Never thought about it when using draw, but it makes perfect sense. The same physics apply. I’ve always tried for a level cue, and if I hit softly, I get good action. When I try for a harder stroke, it’s 50/50 whether the cue ball draws, or goes airborne.
Can’t wait to hit the table tomorrow and start practicing this.

Omg thats what i needed used to have no problem with the draw but started seeing tips about getting hand flat level stroke and started scooping the ball unless the timing was perfect. Started to shy away from long draw shots because i couldnt trust it

How does tip width, shape and hardness, and cue deflection effect drawshots, if at all?

I'm not on board with jacking up even a little to draw the ball. Keeping the cue as level as possible gives you better results.

jeremy jones method: gamble a lot of money. lose it and try again. repeat until draw stroke is learned
