6 Layer Cake Block Ideas

A Layer Cake is a pack of 10 inch squares from a Moda fabric range. Katrina shows us a range of ways to use your 10 inch square to create some effective quilt blocks.

We feature;
1. A Reverse Block - using a simple 1.5 inch cut
2. Patio Cake / Double Slice - using a 3.5 inch and 5 inch cut
3. Cuckoo's Nest - using a 2.5 inch cut
4. Battenberg - using a 2.5 inch cut
5. Picnic in the Park - using 2.5 inch cut and contrasting fabric
6. The Perfect Four Patch - using logical sewing and 5 inch cuts.

We highly recommend using a rotating cutting mat for a lot of these blocks! We sell a couple here:

Guess what you did!?!?! You got my 6 year old granddaughter excited about piecing a quilt! I have been working on an EPP project (over 800 hexies so far) and my Marley has basted a few.

So my mom quilted all of my life, and I watched her. Now, all these years later, I am drawn to quilts. And I want to make my own. I have already made one without a real pattern and I think it turned out beautifully. But I wanted to watch a few videos to learn how to make these unique intricate blocks.
