This is one of the Basic Fun mini arcades that should have been done with a full color LCD. If they based it on the Atari 7800 version like they did with Centipede, it might have been perfect.

Wish I'd seen this earlier! Well, at least yours works. I just got one of these off eBay and mine only stays in attract mode! I've pulled the "Try Me" tab and tried that little pinhole reset in the back...I hope the seller takes it back! (It was NEW).

They seem to be trading on nostalgia for the LCD handheld games of the ’80s. Thing is, we only bought and played those because it’s all there was. If we could have had the real arcade in our pockets, we would have flipped out. Now we can, so this company showing us what an early ‘80s Asteroids might have been doesn’t attract me.

i wasn't to upset with this one since its obvious what your getting thank to the try me mode. so far my least favorite is joust which is shocking but I just don't feel the control on it is great. are you ranking these by chance?

It is sooo easy to make a quality version of this game. There is no excuse for such laziness.

Yeah, that definitely sucks. There's plenty of regular ol' pixel graphics games to choose from that can be adapted to those mini-arcade machines. Asteroids, or any other vector graphics game is still a bit too ambitious for one of those things. But thanks for the effort. Always enjoy your reviews.

I guess I'm going to be contrary here... I picked one of these up for $20... and I think it's actually kind of fun.
As much fun to play as say original arcade Asteroids or 7800 Asteroids? No.
But I have found that for a basic 'shoot space rocks to kill time game', I find it amuses me.

Oh yeah, Asteroids. After picking up the fantastic Fix it Felix Jr. I found Asteroids at the same Wal-mart before Christmas for $4 on clearance. They had several of them and figured why not, I'll pick up one. MAN is this thing bad! Thankfully Basic Fun went with the newer screens, because this was just horrible. They would have been better off just licensing the Atari 2600 version of Asteroids rather than this! At least that version, while not vector graphics, was still fun.

This one is very disappointing. I guess it is ok for what it is but not for the price. Like you said, its not asteroids.

Guys, if you want REAL asteroids arcade, play it on a real machine. This mini arcade costs 20 bucks, and it has lcd screen. In my opinion this is a highest level of gameplay on this kind of device
