They were beautiful. RIP Bob. I saw them in 1985. Long Beach, Ca. I had come hoping for the drunken
trainwreck but instead they came out and were incredibly tight. For around 30 songs. Just an amazing
performance. So good that the response at the end of the show was unlike any I'd ever seen or would
ever see again. No one wanted an encore. None was needed. They'd given it their all and that was enough.
We were drained and we just watched it. They burned up every ounce of energy in that room. Stunning.
Outside the venue after it was all over people were in a daze. You'd hear things like "Fucking hell, they
were so good I can't believe it, " "Man, that was incredible, " "I think we may have just seen the best
show they've ever done." I wouldn't doubt it. It was the best show I ever saw.

It's so perfectly Replacements-esque that this clip of them playing SNL has to be shown low-res and framed sideways otherwise it gets taken down. That's awesome that even in 2022 they can still screw around with authority that way. They were a great band, just rockin' knuckleheads like the early days.

Paul’s wink at 2:15 when he sings “the ones we’ll die to please” is what elevates this into one of the all-time great TV performances

I’ve honestly never seen anything better on TV

SNL invites the replacements then gets upset when they live up to their reputation. Wtf? Did they think was gonna happen? Wonderful performance!

This is phenomenal and not even slightly bad

This is the infamous performance!?! And it f'n rocked! I'm in the middle part of trouble boys, and I'm infinitely hooked. This is the rock and roll band!

its funny to me how replacements pre-dated grunge, and were not quite of their times, and then when grunge came around, they were playing soft and sweet. They are the holy fools of rock history but so fitting. i recommend reading their book. Maybe the best book on a band ever

Considering how many time they did blow it live I just don’t get why everyone says this sucks so bad… I think it’s great.

There was an electrifying blast across America the moment they hit that stage. People were being turned on to something so visceral that they’d only heard about up to that point, here it was right in you face. TV magic.

He said "fuck" at 1:40. Can't believe no one else has mentioned this it's legendary. Lorne Michael's pulled his own Bill Grundy and freaked out on Paul Westerberg -"you'll never make it in show biz", etc etc..

Uma das carreiras mais profissionalmente burras e lindas do rock n roll, emocionante saber que existiram, isso que e punk isso que e rock n roll

I saw The Replacements at The Drumstick in Lincoln, NE in '86 I believe. They got so drunk on stage that they closed the show with a cover of Yummie Yummie Yummie (I got Love in My Tummy). They quit right in the middle of the song, dropped their instruments on stage, and left the building. It was a raw power drunken mess, and it was a fantastic show!

You could isolate any member of the band, broadcast only that, and each one would be the most rock n roll thing 30 Rock had ever witnessed

The ones, love us best are the ones we'll lay to rest
And visit their graves on holidays at best
The ones, love us least are the ones we'll die to please
If it's any consolation, I don't begin to understand them

I never realized a particularly cool thing about this song. Leading up to the last chorus they play the full bar- leading up to the other chori they chop off a bar

I saw this the night it aired. You could see the question marks appear above everyone's head who was watching with me.

You either think this is great or you don't understand rock n' roll.
