I recently got to know from my family that Sir Gulam Dastagir was my Grandfather's older brother and his family was present in my mother's wedding at 2006. This made my experience of watching Railway men even more immersive and amazing as someone from my family was heavily involved in saving lives. A great salute to him. ❤

Just now I watched the 'The Railway Men' series.. It's just mind-blowing ❤️👌... The amount of effort taken by the actors, cameramen and director and everybody among the crew is beyond infinity ❤️... And also I feel very sad about the 1984 incident, and those incidents are very optimistically described in the series.. Who all watched the series?

My house is just 1km near from union carbide. I was not in this world in gas tragedy but my father was. He told he pack all the family and ran to forest near by. Though he is suffering from nose allergy because of that gas infection he is suffering till now. 🥺

Fascinating video, Dhruv. I was one of the 3 doctors employed by the Union Carbide, Bhopal, at the time of the gas disaster. However on the night of the leakage I was not on duty. On 2nd December at 9 PM I got a strong whiff of gas from the factory . My house is 2 kilometers away from the factory . At first, like many others, I thought it was phosgene (Which has the smell of freshly mown hay). But this was a much stronger, more suffocating smell, and I learned later that this was M.I.C (Methyl Iso Cyanate). I rang up the medical staff at Union Carbide and they confirmed a gas leakage and advised me to spray water on the walls of my house. By midnight the situation became intolerable. People in my locality came to know of the gas leakage and all of them bundled into their cars and left for safer, distant destinations. I didn't go because my tenants had left their dog behind, I had to take care of him and also of my own two dogs . I almost died that night. I was choking and coughing non stop and my eyes watered continuously. I thought since I was going to die anyway, I might as well wash my face and change my clothes so that my friends would find my body presentable ! The moment I splashed water on my face, the effect of the gas vanished . Later I learnt that water neutralizes M.I.C. I asked my family members to wash their faces and I put water soaked cloths around the dogs' noses. Well I survived. The next day I realized the extent and enormity of the disaster. Thousands had died and those who had died on the roads got their bodies crushed by fleeing vehicles. Cows, buffaloes and dogs died on the streets. My colleagues and I spent the next few days working round the clock, giving first aid to the survivors. We put eye drops, gave cough medicines, gave oxygen, and injections to relieve lung congestion. Those nightmarish moments will live with me forever.

My tears can't stop rolling down even today after thinking about the struggles of my parents and people during the time of this tragedy. My father and his family was a victim of this tragedy, he tells us how he saw people running without thinking in the opposite direction and when they came back the next day, there were nothing but dead bodies wherever eye can see also there were people who were miraculously alive buried under the piles of bodies, shouting from inside help me help me. May those souls rest in peace.

Thanks for bringing this up, we live in Bhopal. This tragedy occurred 10 years before I was born . My parents and grandparents still recall that day. I get chills when my parents tell me that how they were coughing in the house and how they were seeing people were dying in front of them. By the grace of God, they survived but my grandmother is still suffering. The side effects were very severe. This gas created ulcers in my grandmother's stomach. 😢
