Donors paying for new police cars and EMS rigs

7 Action News has confirmed that corporate donors will be providing the city of Detroit enough money to buy dozens of new police cruisers and EMS rigs.

Detroit is an extremely violent and busy city for police. Not your 1 sheriff patrol area.

I never said it is wise to "just junk them all." Detroit is flat broke, and they run every car/ambulance/firetruck far past its safe lifetime, but you can get a "cheap $50 paintjob" done to a police car, due plainly to the graphics on the car, and the lightbars, equipment exposed, etc. Ottawa is not Detroit either. Much less violent, city has more money for public service, and they don't have the corruption in the councils as seen in the "D".

Police cars DO NOT cost 80K. Crown vics along with most police cars like chargers and the new ford police interceptor cost around 21-25K new, with anywhere from 15k-25k in equipment. The only police car I've ever seen cost 80K or more are the TAC (SWAT) vehicles.

Try doing that to a police car. The car would fall apart almost instantly. Even with new parts, the vehicles can't hold together much more than 100K miles, now imagine throwing used/"junkyard welding" on it and the vehicle wouldn't be safe. Plus it wouldn't pass inspection.

Your cars would rot too if you never took care of them. You know there's parts for those seen so called rigs. Heck give me those rigs I'll fix them up like new. You'd think I just went out and bought a new one after i get done with them. That's the problem though. People toss out good stuff. Those newer looking one might have another ten years. Detroit getting lazy on the subject here. No one wants to get there hands dirty and fix anything.
Waste of money for new things that are currently not needed at the time. Oh and I heard turn abouts have landed in Michigan all over the place.
What the heck is up with that ? But that's another story I don't want to get into that one yet lol
