also if u read this far, hi! here's a secret: I'm not actually a real person. I'm comprised of 3 ant colonies that have joined forces and taken up residence in a human body, all sharing the common goal of becoming YouTube famous. It's going well so far!

Tubbo that is some of the best advice I've ever heard.

Thanks Coy! It’s so hard and complex, the job VidCon tries to do, especially as the community feel of online video has waned, but we all really need to remember…it’s not that serious! ❤

"you have authenticity that our creators want to copy" is WILD

I dreamed of going to VidCon since I was 11. Finally made it out to Anaheim this year at the age of 19, and it was nothing like I expected. It lowkey sucked the soul out of me to see the commercialization and exploitation of an industry whose actual participants (creators) want to disrupt and reimagine, not conform to some weird corporate-jargon filled money-hungry template that's been laid out in so many other fields of work. I also got a lot of weird gender-based treatment at VidCon. Potential sponsors on the creator floor would ask for my boyfriend's contact information and not mine, despite us having the same badge and the company representative not knowing who my boyfriend was and that he had a much larger channel. Walking around with my mostly male group of friends, it was constantly assumed that they were creators, and I was a fan before we even started talking about numbers. Ultimately, VidCon was an isolating experience, and I can't agree more with everything here. Thank you for sharing it.

I met you at VidCon so it’s still alive to me. In my heart. Is that okay? 😊❤

As someone who grew up with watching zoella, danisnotonfire, amazingphil and tyler oakley etc... this made me realise how much this platform has changed in about 10 years, we didn't have to pay for youtube "premium" back then .. . i wanna go back sadge

This is a big part of why your videos are enjoyable honestly. it doesn’t feel like you’re trying to sell a persona to your audience— you aren’t manufacturing a product, you’re just making good videos. In this era of the internet, the videos I enjoy the most are the ones that have obvious care and effort put into them.

I enjoyed my time at VidCon. It was honestly a blast to meet so many people. That said, most of my enjoyment came from the creator meetups away from the convention center. VidCon, as a convention, is definitely having an identity crisis.

I find it ironic that VidCon has become less about YouTube and more about other social media platforms and companies. Kids are also being taught that they need to be business-minded influencers instead of creating content for the fun of it, despite the majority of beloved YouTubers becoming famous and worth watching *because* their content is unique and made with care/effort not just for the sake of money.

the way some people approach creators and start the conversation with a straight “can i have a picture?” is so dystopian

GOD EVERYTHING YOU HAVE SAID ABOUT VIDCON IS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL AS A FAN !! as someone who also grew up living vicariously through creators at earlier vidcons (cuz i lived in a country where i would never be able to attend), it was like this dream, this moment where its almost like you can connect with your favorite creators in a fun space. but its just gotten more and more corporate as the years have gone by, and so has all of social media. idk how we would go back, but its something i have been thinking abt forever, and you put it into video so so well

The algorithm being the creator is probably one of the single most scariest things I've heard said in while.

Tubbo and Ben being in the same shot together is such a shock to the senses after watching them both separately for years and then they are just there with each other 😂

this video is so rewatchable and like Coy said, it's really not only about the vid-con. It's about the social media industry in it's fullest. It's so great, that just because vid-con meant so much to you as a child, it did not stop you from looking critically at it. It's like a pov but with insightful criticism. No more shitty, capitalistic approach to a creative activity, which at it's core was supposed to rely on giving; not taking.

love u coy fr thanks so much for all of it
