CLIP DESCRIPTION:
A neighbor is heartbroken when she finds her dog has been killed. Jeff (James Stewart) and Lisa (Grace Kelly) question why Thorwald would want to kill a dog.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Laid up with a broken leg, photojournalist L.B. Jeffries (James Stewart) is confined to his tiny, sweltering courtyard apartment. To pass the time between visits from his nurse (Thelma Ritter) and his fashion model girlfriend Lisa (Grace Kelly), the binocular-wielding Jeffries stares through the rear window of his apartment at the goings-on in the other apartments around his courtyard. As he watches his neighbors, he assigns them such roles and character names as "Miss Torso" (Georgine Darcy), a professional dancer with a healthy social life or "Miss Lonelyhearts" (Judith Evelyn), a middle-aged woman who entertains nonexistent gentlemen callers. Of particular interest is seemingly mild-mannered travelling salesman Lars Thorwald (Raymond Burr), who is saddled with a nagging, invalid wife. One afternoon, Thorwald pulls down his window shade, and his wife's incessant bray comes to a sudden halt. Out of boredom, Jeffries casually concocts a scenario in which Thorwald has murdered his wife and disposed of the body in gruesome fashion. Trouble is, Jeffries' musings just might happen to be the truth. One of Alfred Hitchcock's very best efforts, Rear Window is a crackling suspense film that also ranks with Michael Powell's Peeping Tom (1960) as one of the movies' most trenchant dissections of voyeurism. As in most Hitchcock films, the protagonist is a seemingly ordinary man who gets himself in trouble for his secret desires.

I love how they make the scene more realistic by having the scream interrupt her mid-sentence, rather than waiting for an opening in dialogue for the scream.

Seeing his cigarette burn as he inhales... so clever, so creepy.

The fact that Hitchcock was able to make a full length movie set in just one single location and still have it THIS visually pleasing is amazing (same with ROPE that was originally a stage play). They could have easily just have had the window facing a single brick wall on the other side but he decided to give the courtyard a personality of itself.

Did you kill him because he likes you? Just because he likes you! The only one in the neighborhood who ever liked anybody!

This scene makes me think this movie makes a better character study than a suspense thriller.

Sara Berner, the actress in this clip, was my aunt. My mother told me that she visited her on the set when she was pregnant with me. She was very talented, and I am proud of her work in this classic moment in a classic film

Hitchcock really did know what he was doing when it comes to film making. This is one of my favorites; beautifully photographed and just look ~ Look at all the lovely dresses ladies, please.

The nasty thought of "her neigbour having killed her dog" is contrary to the ''open door and open window'' policy of friendly neighbours and the ''friendly building'' of people.
.
She thinks it could have been any one of her neighbours !

Whenever she said did you kill him because he liked you breaks my heart because I have 2 chihuahuas and if anything happened to them, I would be crying my eyes out.

In most movies only the main character hear loud screams and nobody else I'm happy that everybody heard her scream, exactly like real life Perfect Attention to details

You would think that the Amazing Grace Kelly would be all the distractions that Jeff (played by Jimmy Stewart) would need. I love the New York accents in this movie.

Sounds like Lars Thorwald needs to have a little talk with Mr. Rogers.
