If I remember correctly, the black color that represent haki is only for fans to be able to see if it’s used or not. It is actually invisible.
Those in the One Piece world can probably sense it so they have an idea how strong the haki is.

The second he turned black. Law had to use what he learned from zoro and cut him into some pieces of chicken, so that after the explosion the pieces would be fried.
Fun and weird fact- after Vergo was sliced into pieces and fried, the straw hats ate him. Especially luffy, but he was nice enough to give law his cheeks to finish off.
