This morning we got a potential Switch 2 leak showing what the final body of the system may look like, and it's basically a bigger, more powerful Nintendo Switch. Let's talk about how real this leak may be, what all is entailed, and what this might mean for the future of Nintendo's next system.

if it will be as powerful as a PS 4(handheld) and PS4 Pro(Docked) like they are saying while still maintaining the current generation's battery life, Man is it gonna sell like crazy!!

When using a single Joy-Con on the side, I’ve always used the wrist strap because it makes the SR/SL buttons bigger and easier to press.

If this is what it is - I'd be happy! I just hope they give us themes this time, lol. And how about some background music in the eShop! I miss those times.

The Motherboard in the photos is real. It's numbered "X6" and if you have a good eye, you can make out on the motherboard near the end of the joycon (it's upside down) the last numbers are "2340", which means Week 40 (October), 2023. This is when the revision of this motherboard X6, started showing up in the shipping data. X8 is the current shipping model, so this isn't from a production line, but is from a test production instead. With the reveal happening in the next 6 months officially, and rumors pointing to the first half of next year, as well as test production seemingly at or near it's end. Actual production of Switch 2 should happen sometime very soon, and a reveal is likely to happen around this timing. The person who posted these pictures said that they created the CAD files by reverse engineering the data they had, but that the real photos are legit. Faking a motherboard in this way is so incredibly complicated and expensive, that it's very unlikely to be fake, especially when we know a lot of these X6 motherboards exist. There is just too many details that were correct and even solved in very intelligent ways.

Claiming that a handheld console, priced at (speculative) $400, is outdated at launch simply because it doesn't match the power of the PS5 or Xbox Series X is an unreasonable statement. It's unrealistic to expect a handheld to be on par with these consoles in terms of performance.

It’s like a Gameboy to gameboy advanced kind of situation

I guess my question is this.

People that have defended that lack of power on the Switch have stated that it is ONLY about the portability and gameplay. For a casual that has no allegiance to Nintendo, or doesn't care about power anyway, how do you convince them to buy this if this is _just_ a more powerful Switch? They will just say,

"I already have a Switch. I don't need another one."

I have a Samsung Galaxy A71 phone. Numerous upgrades and iterations have come out since I bought it 3 years. I have had no need for any of them because the phone I have does everything I need it to do. However, I know that there are enthusiasts out there that trade in their current phone and get the very next model or iteration as soon as it comes out. Those people are the minority, not the majority.

I know as gamers we tend to think WE are the majority, but in reality, we are not when it comes to consoles that have had major success like the Switch, PS4, Wii, DS, PS2, PS1, and GameBoy.

Nintendo has already officially stated that they will continue to support the Switch well into the next generation. It is a normal business strategy to maintain support of a successful piece of hardware with a large consumer footprint for as long as you can.

I say all that to say that if this is just a more powerful Switch straight up and nothing else, I can see it being popular with the core gaming audience, but this will not have the same success as the original Switch. No reason for casuals that don't care about power, or are not core-fans of Nintendo IP to upgrade. Not enough to differentiate it from the other (more powerful, and more capable) hybrid-devices that are already on the market, and ones in development. I see it doing about half the numbers of the original Switch at best.

I feel like the wii u was the switch 1, and the switch is the switch 2. And now we are coming up on the switch 3

I could see this as Nintendo’s offering next year: Switch Lite $199, Switch $299, Switch OLED $349, Switch ‘2’ $399. Sold as a family of devices for at least a few years until we see a spec bump in the lite. Switch ‘2’ will have its own games. The pricing ladder is already built in.

The USB-C on the top of the console opens so many possibilities! Like adding a new screen for playing DS/3DS games. You can have it if you want, and also take it off. That also means that they don’t increase the price of the Switch 2 while also adding the possibility of adding a second screen if you want to.

you have to consider, literally in the past year there have been numerous handhelds that have been released and more that are still to come. Until it's officially announced from Nintendo, we can only assume this could be any handheld coming out that is using mock features of a switch. Love the vid, always good topics!

I don't mind the old design being bigger so much, the biggest pain point has been the fact that no where I travel to has a switch dock waiting for me. So I have always had to carry my dock awkwardly in my bag with it, every time I go somewhere for more than a day. I pray for a micro dock, basically a plug with a small base, or... just let us plug in a dongle with hdmi, power and usb ports please.

At first I thought the joycons were too different; too rounded, but being larger, it makes sense.
A larger joycon might allow grips to be more ergonomic as well.

I wonder what the “gimmick” will be. Every Nintendo console or handheld has that one unique feature making it unique. Don’t think the magnetic joy cons is that feature lol.
