Your List of Medications and Social Security Disability Hearings

Social Security disability judges look very closely at your list of medications. Why? Your medications list helps the judge understand very quickly how whether your medical condition is chronic but manageable, or severe and disabling.

In this video I explain what you need to know about your list of medications and how to best prepare for hearing questions about the prescription drugs you are taking.

Your testimony about both prescription and over the counter medications can make a huge difference in your case and since you know these questions will be asked, there is no reason why you should not be fully prepared.

Judges are now wanting to see your actual pharmacy records —- not only what medications you’re taking/have been prescribed but also how often you have had them filled. This can get complicated especially if your case goes on for years and you use different pharmacies and order drugs from pharmacies out of state or receive samples from doctors. Getting more and more frightening. Seems they are doing everything they can now to deny cases.

I thank you, mr Ginsburg for your helpful information. I have a hearing coming up in April and I feel so much more confident and less unsure and afraid.

I'm confused mr.ginberg, your talking about medications being a factor in your case, exspecialy driving, I don't recall what video I watched from you, you have so many, but you specifically said that judges don't care if your medicated up enough to not be able to drive, if you have a ride to work that satisfies his decision. You want to clarify this medication stuff with me.

i got heart and back issues i’m on beta blockers and have fmla, drs notes and mris and x rays. one thing i can add is i’m on lomitil for diarrhea, and i still get diarrhea i’ve had an endoscopy done, but would the lomitil be one of those serious medications. i know i got to take extra breaks for back pain and diarrhea which is in a doctors letter.

Have applied all of the stuff for prescriptions except your medication side effects. How important are side effects? When you are taking 40-50 medications, the side effects information is on the bottle or on the Internet. Example - percocet - I get drowsy. It is a pain killer and that is a major side effect. Your thoughts Jonathan?

Check all your Meds side effects list, I take 7 Meds and checked all of their side effects. Then I wrote in my remarks I was suffering from 2 of the side effects. lost of bladder control and pain in joints. I insisted my doctor record my problems with my bladder and joint pain. I also watched ALL the SSI videos and said I had to take breaks when cleaning my home after 10 or 15 minutes. The most I could walk was 3 blocks with out stopping. And I stopped bathing 3 day before my mental health CE interview. I sucked my thumb throughout the interview. After my initial denial I made sure to have a major medical emergency recorded. They paid me after recondsideration. It's a process.

Your videos are very helpful and informative. I wish I had discovered them sooner! I was hoping to find a topic on updated testimony submissions. What are your thoughts and advice on writing a post hearing letter to clarify information that was unconsciously minimized or insufficiently quantified verbally? I was not able to find much info geared specifically for disability claimants. My lawyers response, "we can try. write it up, sign it and send it to me..." with little other guidance. I want to be sure to write an appropriately formatted and informative letter that will help my case.

In my recent experience, even if a lawyer tells you otherwise, try to keep a list or little notebook of all your prescribed medications, dnd samples along with dates/duration of use and any notes about side effects. They add up over the years if you have multiple conditions, and it could be overwhelming to compile weeks before your hearing date. It will also be handy to refer to if your mind goes blank when the judge asks you if you get any limiting side effects. And if you have notes with you at your hearing, I suggest having them ready on paper on the table in front of you rather than a file on your phone. ugh.

I have major depression disorder, general anxiety disorder, ADHD, unspecified learning disorder, adjustment disorder, as well as possible autism and psychosis which I will find out soon for sure. I have been in a psychiatric ward, am on three medications (Sertraline 200 MG, Hydroxyzine Pamoate 100 MG, and Vitamin D) the longest I've held a job was a year and a half, but more recently I've had about three work attempts where I worked less than three months. I have trouble understanding instructions and difficulty completing tasks, even at entry level jobs. Do I have a legit case?
