werent they originally native to the USA Eastern mountain areas before europeans cut down all the trees on the coastal plains for farms, then they spread out from the mountains, especially with help from birds who eat their seeds, thats why you see them frequently growing by fences and under power lines along the roadside, the birds would poo out the undigested seeds, and its a great sunny place usually for them to grow
