People saying this band wasn't popular or well liked are living under a rock. This was one of the biggest albums of the decade.

I miss this No Doubt so much. They were the shining light of third wave ska, somehow blending the fun of Californian punk into an already beautifully mashed up Anglo-caribbean sound. And Gwen, when she was the cool, punky Anaheim girl next door. She went all Hollywood a few years after this era, all high fashion and hip-hop infused pop. Nothing wrong with it, but not the Gwen Stefani us 90s teens grew up with. At least this album still captures the good times like few others can. ☺️

Gwen is my niece they made the video at my mom's house. It was a fun two days of filming.

The guy in the swing is Terry Hall, the lead singer of The Specials, No Doubts influence and probably the best Ska band ever.

I just loved the sound of this song when it came out. Ska, Reggae, it was like The Police, Madness, Dexy's MIdnight Runners, The Specials. Then Gwen's vocals. Soooo Good. Such a great bass line and beat.

This was definitely one of the songs that describes summer of 97. Heavy rotation on MTV and the Box(remember that?). Along with Sugar Ray, Sublime, and the West Coast/East Coast feud. Great times!

The guy on the swing at the end of the video is Terry Hall the leader singer of the 70's Ska band The Specials.

This was Ska. It's correct as Lex said it's a bit reggae infused with punk. Always loved Gwen, with No Doubt or solo.

This was played constantly on MTV along with Spiderwebs. Here are a few bands you guys should check out: Cherry Poppin'Daddy's - Zoot Suit Riot, Squirrel Nut Zippers - Hell.

This is heavily influenced by English SKA SOUND 🎸off the tragic Kingdom album which is a Play on words of magic kingdom since she grew up close to Disneyland in Anaheim California

I've known this song and video for 25 years or so. My reaction today: "THAT'S F**KING TERRY HALL 👆😲"

I never forget playing No Doubt for the girlfriend at the time and her saying Gwen sounded like
"Betty Boop"

No Doubt suggestions: "Hella Good", "Hey Baby", "New", "Ex-Girlfriend" and "It's My Life" (which is a cover of Talk Talk's).
They are a Ska band but the Tragic Kingdom did have to put some pop in it. Their first 2 albums and their album Rocksteady took it right back to their roots though. Plus they recorded Rocksteady in Jamaica so it really has that Reggae flavor in it. I love No Doubt. I've listened to them since the beginning.
Fun facts: the guy watching the band at the beginning and end of the video is Gwen's brother Eric Stefani who co-founded the band with John Spence, may he rest in peace. This song was co-written between Gwen and Tony Kanal (bassist). At the time Gwen and Tony were a couple and Gwen was in the bathroom with food poisoning so Tony was sitting in the hall and starting singing the hook for this song to help her feel better LOL.

So glad you guys are exploring some old No Doubt. This is Gwen at her absolute best. Ska Gwen > Pop Gwen.

Trivial fact: The dude in the video, dressed in black, who just rocks up and sits down is Terry Hall, former lead singer of British SKA band The Specials.

I've never seen the video before - seeing Terry Hall was a surprise.

So, did anyone mention Terry Hall sitting on the swing? Lead singer of one of the most influential SKA bands, The Specials. Also in Fun Boy Three and the Colourfield?

Gwen basically wrote all the songs on Tragic Kingdom about her break up with the bass player(I think his name is Tony Kanan). It was a massive hit. Every girl growing up in the 90s had this album. I'll never forget a girl I was off and on with singing "Don't Speak" to me drunk off her ass and changing the words saying I still loved another the when I had more girls than time. It sucks getting old. You really start noticing that they don't even look at you anymore.😔

New Wave + Sunny Californian Pop + Ska + Punk Rock = this. Just. Right. The best of No Doubt.. other than the 90s icon "Don't Speak"
