Verdin Tends to Its Nest:

This Verdin tends to its nest and then flies off to get more twigs. The nest is about 4 feet from the ground and above a patch of plants that are loaded with spikey tips. The nest is built in a cholla cactus. On the close-up still shot of the nest at 0.20, there are at least 2 thorns poking down at the entrance. Yikes! There are a couple other nests in a Palo Verde tree just above this nest but those may have been from previous years - Wikipedia says, "Once paired, the male and female claim a territory as large as 20 acres . . ." Verdin are throughout the southwest and northern Mexico. Thanks for watching, commenting, and subscribing.

That was a fabulous slowdown of mommy verdin.. I was going to guess cactus wren so thanks for showing her. I suppose the distinctive feature is the hole on the side of that football looking nest which I believe cactus wren also do... Opening in the side of a football looking nest?? If you can get one of those please post. I think the cactus ran is messier, may use different materials. ???
