The F-117 Nighthawk, B-2 Stealth bomber, F-22 Raptor, F-35 Lightning II, and the upcoming B-21 Raider, while stealth technology has become present everywhere in modern fixed-wing military aircraft, it is still a novelty in military helicopters. From 1996 until 2004, Your beloved military dumped $7 billion from your tax money, and built 2 stealth helicopter prototypes, the Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche. The Comanche was intended to replace the Army’s OH-58 Kiowa, and reportedly had a radar cross section 360 times lower than A H-64 Apache! But ultimately the $7 billion program was cancelled without producing a single operational helicopter. Because the helicopters are poorly suited for stealth technology, due to its turbine exhaust blaring a piercing whine, the fuselage skin’s vibration rumbling like a drum and the tail rotor rasping like a buzzsaw." The Comanche's design had serious technical challenges in the areas of “software integration, radar signatures, gun system performance, and aided target detection algorithm performance."

Was it a waste of money? We used A LOT of the stuff from this for our tier 1 units. The 160th SOAR boys were flying stealth helicopters on the Osama bin laden raid. Who knows what else they're using

$7 billion is the same cost the Americans paid to keep the air con running a year when in Afghanistan

For starters they built more than 2 and secondly they definitely worked better than you think. All I can say is they weren’t seen or used in the Persian Gulf in 2002. That didn’t happen. LoL

Why deploy manned helicopters when you can send unmanned drones for recon? The drones are much quieter, harder to see and no pilots are at risk.

Having said that, the Comanche looks amazing. I have one on a military themed game I play online. I modified it to have explosive rounds in the minigun. It shreds.

Fun Fact:
RAH-66 Comanche is also seen in Command & Conquer Generals.
