I'm using an Alienware 15 r3 with Skylake. I had some remorse when I found that Kaby Lake became available 3 weeks after my computer was delivered. At least, this video give me reassurance that my purchase isn't a dud.

The Skylake in your video is probably an early production Alienware 15 with the thermal issues which is why the CPU temps are high. I ran OCCT for 1 hour and my CPU temp maxed at 72 C. My other computer, an Alienware 13, maxed at 80 C due to smaller fans and less cooling room.

I think the temperature difference is due to the new pastes and padding fix inside the alienware and has nothing to do with the cpus themselves

repasted my R4 1080 using the conductonaut. temps went down from 80-90 to 50-70 full load and gaming.

FINALLY. this is literally the only review on youtube as of right now that shows the temps in the new kaby lakes compared to the skylake for the alienware laptops and i have to say, if your results are consistant with all the new models i may actually go with one of these, i had wanted the 17 inch one but i didnt want the thing to overheat. thanks for this video

Did they fix the overheating issue that is requiring these things to be repasted? I’ve been thinking of getting the r3 this week off of dell themselves but I’m worried I’m wasting my money on something that will be broken out of the box. Is it worth waiting 6 more months since this won’t support the new command center? I don’t plan on overclocking or anything really

How do the screens compare when gaming? Is there a lot more tearing(vsync off) and stuttering(vsync on) on the skylake screen when compared with the kabylake g-sync enabled screen?

hey man you made a great video there, could you also compare the last gen i5 with i7 for alienware 15? there is model on amazon with gtx1060 which has quite a big price difference, my only concern is that could the 6th gen i5-6300hq will be a bottleneck for the gtx 1060? or are both these components good match for each other in terms of future performance?

I have a AW15R3-7002SLV-PUS model was wondering if it has a 1tb hard drive included with it's 256gb SSD can't find anything on that model saying if it has a1tb ssd

Thanks for the video, I'm picking up the Kaby Lake version in a few days, from what I've seen they're practically the same price. Any difference in battery configurations between the two? I heard the 7th gen cpu models had a 99wh battery and the 6th gen have a 68wh. Or does that depend on the refresh rate? Mine will have a 120hz G-Sync ips panel.
