Will Women's Reservation Bill Help PM Modi Woo Women Voter In 2024 Lok Sabha Elections? | News18

The Women's Reservation Bill, which promises 33 percent seats in Lok Sabha and state Assemblies for women, was tabled by Union Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal in Lok Sabha during the Special Session Of Parliament. Just like particular castes and communities, women have become a voting bloc in their own right and all political parties are now wooing them. The influence and impact of women voters is rising with the increase in their participation in the electoral process. For the first time in 2019, more women, than men, exercised their right to vote. The participation of women voters at 67.2% was more than men's, at 67%, in the 2019 Lok Sabha election. Contrast this with just 46.6 per cent women voting in the 1962 Lok Sabha election against 62 per cent male voters.

In the three years to 2022, the number of women voters increased by 5.1%. In the same period, the number of male voters grew by 3.6%. PM Modi & BJP understand this well and that is why they have increasingly tried to attract women to vote for them.

In Karnataka, Congress dented BJP’s women's vote bank by announcing women-centric guarantees such as the Gruha Laxmi scheme and free bus rides. Rahul Gandhi and the INDIA alliance will likely promise something on similar lines in the run-up to the 2024 elections to counter NDA’s ujjwala and triple Talaq pitch. As per the sources Sonia Gandhi is set to lead the discussion on the Nari Shakti Vadan Adhiniyam or Women’s Reservation bill in the special session of the parliament which is now taking place in the New Parliament Building.

Without ensuring education to MPs required for proper management of the nation, this kind of reservation for women and others is dirty politics initiated by B. R. Ambedkar.

Though significance of Women's Reservation Bill is immense but its impact in electoral politics is very poor. As such, it seems, Sanatana controversy as raised by BJP may be the prime issue in 2024 LS Election. This issue has reach to all section of people.
