As the 2022 regular season was winding down, the Dallas Mavericks hosted the Los Angeles Lakers on March 29, but what was otherwise an ordinary game had some built-in drama thanks to Shaquille O’Neal. Prior to the game, Shaq said on the TNT broadcast that he would wear a pink suit in his next television appearance if Luka Dončić scored 35 points that night. By halftime, Luka had already racked up 25 points, and while again teasing Shaq’s promise during the halftime report, TNT aired a clip of Shaq sporting a pink swimsuit. Luka scored nine points in the third quarter, but Shaq was spared further embarrassment after the Mavs kept him on the bench for the remainder of the game with 34 points. For collectors, though, pink is sometimes the way to go. Additionally, no other card from the set has received the designation, so this card is truly one-of-a-kind. For Dončić, his effort on March 29 was just one of several standout games in a season that saw him nearly average a triple-double and lead his team to the Western Conference Finals. Perhaps, Luka will improve upon that performance on his own merits in 2022-23, but it probably would not hurt if he knew there was a pink suit bet with Shaq for each of Dallas’ 82 games. In the meantime, we cannot think of a better way to get in on that bidding than by sporting a pink suit of your own.
