YA ALI A.S MADAD...
When you and I and many individuals stand and say, Ya Ali, It is in a reference and in respect to the Commander of the Faithful Amir al-Mu'minin Ali ibn Abi Talib, salawatullahi wa salamuhu 'alayh. [Allahumma salli ala Muhammad wa aali Muhammad]

It is an utterance that indeed you and I have practised and have mentioned throughout our lives. You find in many occasions people enjoy mentioning and remembering the Commander of the Faithful. Yet of course there are people today who have emerged and have come forward and complained. Some of them have stood against this particular practise. They have said, "Why is it that you say Ya Ali? Surely you should say Ya Allah. Surely you should not call the names of certain individuals.

First thing I would like to say is, when it comes to calling someone, is this permissible or not? All of us agree that indeed if something that you and I practice on a regular basis, we call each other isn't it? By their names.

In fact Allah, Subhanah wa ta'ala, does what? He calls His Prophets. He says Ya Musa, He calls Ibrahim, He calls Yahya, Yes the Prophets, he calls them. Not only does he call them, he says we must remember them. We must utter their name Wazkur fil – kitaabi Maryam (19:16), Wazkur fil Kitaabi Ibraahim (19:41), Wazkur fil – kitaabi whom? Idris (19:56). Allah says remember them, mention them.

Therefore the remembrance and the mentioning of these Holy individuals is something sanctioned by the Holy Qur'an. Allah says you should remember them. Who are you and I to come forward and say we should not recall the name of these holy individuals, isn't it? The first thing is this.

The second? Tell me aren't we, you and I and Muslims claiming to be the followers of the Holy Prophet. And when we say the followers of the Holy Prophet, that means whatever he does, we do. And whatever he says we should not do, we will not do. Tell me who was one of the first few who came and said, Ya Ali? It was Rasool Allah. Subhanallah. You say where?

Let me give you examples. The Hadith, that is mutawaatir meaning authentic, established by an all Muslims books of Hadith, the Prophet of Islam comes forward and says what? He says, Ya Ali, "Anta Minni Be Manzilati Haroon Mim Musa, O Ali, you are to me like what Aaron was to Moses" The Prophet of Islam says Ya Ali, "Silmuka silmi harbu ka harbi, O Ali, the one who is at peace with you, is at peace with me and the one who fights you. And the one is the one who fights me". The Prophet of Islam would say "Ya Ali" calling Amir al-Mu'minin and would say what "Ana wa anta min shajaratin wahida wa baqin-nas min shajaratin ukhra, You and I are from one tree and the rest of the people are from different trees".

Yes. To the Prophet saying Ya Ali. Now the Qur'an says "Wa-ma atakumur-Rasulu fa-khudhuh, Whatever the Prophet did, you and I must do"(59:7). When the Prophet says "Ya Ali" then I will also say "Ya Ali". In addition to this, some people may ask the question, fine the Prophet of Islam mentioned "Ya Ali". But did he specifically say we, you and I must mention it? Of course he did.

You will find the famous narration in which we find it in several books by our brothers Ahl ul-Sunnah. Such as what? Such as Kanz al-Ummal by al-Muttaqi-al-Hindi in Volume Eleven, such as the book by Allama Jalaluddin As-Suyuti Al-Jaami' as-Saghir. Such as the book by ibn Asakir Tarikh Dimashq. Non-shia books they come forward and say that Rasulullah said, "Dhikru Aliyin Ibadah, the mentioning of Ali is worship to Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala" People asked the question when the Prophet says "Dhikru Aliyin Ibadah" the mentioning of Ali is what is worship?

What does this mean? Does this mean, God forbid, it is the worship of the Commander of the Faithfuls? Of course not, because Amir al-Mu'minin is a servant of God. In fact, to the Prophet of Islam, who is described, is described in the Holy Qur'an as what as Abdullah. When the Qur'an comes forward and says "Subhana alladhi asra bi'abdihi laylan minal-masjidil-haram ilal-masjidil-aqsa alladhi barakna hawlah" (17:1)That is why, of course, this station of servitude was one that was what expressed by the Holy Ahlul Bayt. But what does it mean when the Prophet of Islam says "Dhikru Aliyin Ibadah" the mentioning of Ali is worship? What does this mean? It means that Ali ibn Abi Talib is the champion of Tawhid. Subhanallah.

It refers to the idea that through Ali ibn Abi Talib we can get proximity to Allah. We can understand what Tawhid in reality is. We can appreciate the worship of the Almighty, Subhanah wa Ta'ala. Why you ask me? I tell you, Amir al-Mu'minin was born in the House of God. He was martyred in the House of God. And in between, his life was dedicated to Tawhid. [SubhanAllah].Thus we believe when you and I state Ya Ali, it is what? One of it's applications is, what is Tawassul. We are seeking nearness to Allah, Subhanah wa Ta'ala through the Commander of the Faithfuls, Amir al-Mu'minin Ali ibn Abi Talib, salawatullahi wa salamuhu 'alayh.[Allahumma salli ala Muhammad wa aali Muhammad]

Some people asked a question, though very important, they say, ok, but this is a statement that has been misunderstood by some people. In other words, should we stick to Ya Allah and not say, Ya Ali, because sometimes people may misconstrue this, they may misunderstand this.

I tell you, there is a reason why the Ahlul Bayt have emphasized the need to mention the name of the Commander of the Faithful because for many years he was fought, for many years, his name was attacked for many years, he was cursed from the pulpits. For many years people in Sham would say that did Ali ibn Abi Talib actually pray, when they are told that Ali was struck whilst use performing the prayers. There was a concerted effort by many to obliterate the name of the Commander of the Faithful.

That is why today we ask, we answer this question, Is saying Ya Ali shirk? Absolutely not. It is getting close to Allah, Subhanah wa Ta'ala, is part of Istighatha, is part of Tawassul, is part of what Allah wants.

It is a means to get closer to Allah. It is the practise of the Holy Prophet. It is reviving the name of the Ahlul Bayt because individuals like Muawiyah, like Yazeed, like Al Hajjaj, like al-Mutawakkil, like Saddam, like Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, do not want us to mention Ali. And we will come forward and we will mention more and more and we will say, Ya Ali. [Narahe Haydari.. Ya Ali!]
