Island stories: Anjouan, Comoros Islands - BBC News

Anjouan is one of the three Comoros Islands that declared independence from France in 1975. One of its main crops is the ylang ylang flower, which is distilled into one of the constituents of perfume in numerous small distilleries. But many of the inhabitants of Anjouan try to leave for what they think will be a better life in the neighbouring island of Mayotte, which remained part of France and has a higher standard of living.
BBC Swahili's Zuhura Yunus talks to a teenager in Anjouan whose brother is trying to make a living in Mayotte. Then she visits the brother, Ousmani, in Mayotte, to see how he is getting on.

I'm from Comoros, especially Anjouan. I love that island as it's where I was born and raised up till my 19 years old when I left home for studies. I returned back after 12 years away but I found out the country still in under crises caused by our politicians. The Comorian politicians are so greedy in a way that they never think of the country. All what they think of, is their pockets, ile so I wonder how do they want the country to be developped ? The actually president claim to be an Imam while he knows nothing about being an imam. They say that there is a democracy in Comoros but I say that's not true, the president is a dictator. He forgot that he's been voted by the population, but one day Allah will step him down and peace will get back in my lovely island Anjouan InshaAllah :)
