No adding compost first before piling up the first layer of straw or hay? Others have shown in their "experiments" that adding compost considerably increases the yield as well as the size of the potatoes.

Update: I didn’t shoot a harvest video but I had a great yield that year!

I just planted my 2022 spuds and would have had absolutely no chance of getting them in the ground conventionally. The biggest benefit is being able to plant on time during a wet spring.

Determinate and indeterminate potatoes grow different. One you have to hill, the other grows horizontally in groups of tubers. I don’t remember which is which, though. Also, my straw potatoes were awesome last year, and the leftover ones did not rot in the cardboard boxes in my guest room!!! They started to grow, though, so I will put them outside this week...under compost and straw. We live in Canada so may is planting time....June in some places. Chipmunks chewed on some of my potato patch but there was very little bug damage. About a ten to one yield, which might not be great...but maybe with the leaf compost this year the yield will increase.

Gettin ready to do this in NC. Curious as to what kindof sun exposure would be preferred.
Also, we're converting yard to mostly garden. Would these get placed on the grass or should the ground be prepared first?

Very nice! Mine are coming along. I didn’t water them at first then read Do a good soaking water every week or so. Now I’m confused... How do you water it? Should I water it? When do you stop watering it 🤔 tia !

You start with straw and then say put hay on top of your seed pieces. Very confusing
