A ship over 100 years old has been found perfectly preserved at the bottom of lake Huron. The big question is: If there is no visible damage to this great ship, then what caused it to sink?

It's so sad that the greed of ship owners played a major role in so many Great Lakes sinkings. And the crews' families got little to nothing in survivor benefits, even after going to court.
I grew up in Milwaukee and know many of the stories well, especially those in the 20th century. It's another black mark against the great American way of business.

I was a professional diver on a boat off the West coast (of the US). We had something called a heat-exchanger, a pump would bring bold water from the ocean and cool the hot diesel engines. Besides cooling the engine this would also heat up the water and was pumped out to the back deck. We would fill up 55 gallon oil drums and with this hot water warm up after (very) cold dives in deep water. Why isn’t it possible to run conduit, hosing, around the deck of the ship and have this hot water sprayed on deck? Melting the ice and keeping it from forming. To me, it seems like a simple solution, but… what do I know.

sounds like waves got water in her hull and overloaded the weight with ice and water. the already heavy boat just got weighed down till she went under. the crew tried to swim for it as the lifeboat was froze in place. the crew were carried away by the current and the froze to death. it all happened rather slowly but she went down quickly once the limit was hit.
