Calgary begins process of abolishing conversion therapy

Показать описание
The controversial practice of conversion therapy will go to a Calgary council committee next week with a vote on banning it likely occurring next month. Conversion therapy aims to change an individual's sexual orientation through counselling or religious teachings. It has been discredited as psychologically damaging. Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi and five council members say the motion will initially be brought forward next Tuesday. Nenshi, at an event with federal Health Minister Patty Hajdu, calls the practice "insidious" and something that needs to be dealt with. (January 17, 2020.)
