Behold the greatest impersonator in the animal kingdom! This small cephalopod can be found in the shallow waters of the Indo-Pacific. Or maybe more accurately: It can’t be found in the shallow waters of the Indo-Pacific. That’s because it’s often pretending to be something else entirely. This is the master of disguise, the mimic octopus.

It is crazy how of all those species of octopuses and cuttlefish, only two of them take shapeshifting to the next level. I’ll never not be surprised by this extraordinary creature.

I love mimic octopuses. Also, I can't help but giggle every time I hear "Wonderpuss." It sounds like a Hannah Barbara cartoon character.

A thing I think about all the time is if far-future paleontologists only knew about the mimic octopus from fossils they would never in a million years guess it could do all this stuff. Makes you wonder what incredible abilities extinct animals might have had that we'll never know about!

Clownfish: I live in an Amnemonemomne

Mimic Octopus: I *AM* the anemone.

As discussed in the video, the wonderpuss is commonly mistaken for a mimic octopus, EVEN IN THIS VIDEO! 6:00 This is a wonderpuss mimicking a sea snake here.

The cognitive abilities to master so many patterns and behaviors must be considerable! A vid about the oktopus-brain would be surely interesting !

I am kicking myself for not having thought to request one of my favorite animals! I love how octopuses force you to rethink everything you thought you understood about how animals work

I would love to see you guys talk about spiny soft shell turtles, American woodcocks, beaked whales, or black footed ferrets.

I had a thought the other day: We see so much intelligence from the Octopus BUT imagine how far they could upgrade if they could pass on their knowledge to future generations? Currently they live very short lifes and die before ever getting to interact with their children. So it's even more mind blowing thet have been capable of achieving what they do when they live such sort lifes and have no one to help them learn in the short period of time that is their lifecycle

Among the many reasons I can no longer eat octopus. There's very little that lives in the water that I won't eat, but octopuses are among that group.

Future episode maybe: sea pangolin/volcano snail, due to being the most metal 'thing' alive. 🖤 🐌
