It was 5 years later that some of the panniers were sent to work with London transport and support the Maroon red livery and that lasted until 1971 when the last day of steam on the London Underground had finally ended

A handful lingered on until 1969 in private use, proving testament to a robust design originally from South Wales colliery engines of the 1900s.

Only 16 57xx panniers have been saved for preservation some can be seen on heritage lines

And as for 9600 7715 7752 and 7760 they are still active members for the mainline

But right now they’re not on the mainline as of 2024
