To calculate with such accuracy based on one's ability is master tactics. You have complete control and know what the limit is. This was a phenomenal display on a great athlete. Once again, I must pay great praise to the commentator with his empathy for an incredible performance.

The pressure that was on Nils in these games was enough to break anyone, yet he dominated and brought his A-game. He is already a legend!

As a Dutchman, I would have loved to see Roest or Bergsma win, but my oh my, what an amazing race by Van De Poel. Smashing his own world record and not even riding a perfect race. Impressive and breathtaking! 🤩 🤯

A tear in the eyes for sure, 34 years since last time a Swedish skater did this in the olympics (I remember that occasion) and thought it never would happen again. He does things his own way as the greatest do and performs when it counts. So impressed by him and the commentator was so brilliant as well.

Nils also released his guide "How to Skate 10k" today where he shares his training philosophy and his training log since May 2019. It's quite bonkers how much he has trained.

I remember when TJ Bloemen set his WR in 15. That 10k was a piece of art, perfectly executed to maximize Bloemen's capacity.
And here comes this guy, and just utterly shatters it. Capacity on a whole another level.
He's faster than his own world record at 9200m, the fastest 9, 2k ever, and THEN he skates the two last laps UNDER 29 seconds, something I've never seen before in the 10k. It's 5k world record pace in the last two laps of t a 10k! And all of this on a low altitude rink. Insane.

Let's just take a bow for Nils. I've said from the moment I started watching that it should be possible to ride like an on average 30 seconds per lap, a 12:30. And this man just basically did that on the biggest stage of them all. Absolutely mindblowing performance by this lad.
And as other pointed out, this commentator is amazing. He could make a video recording of paint drying interesting. I wish we had these kind of enthusiastic and entertaining commentators in the Netherlands...

Nils Van De Poel is one of those few remarkable athletes in a decade, that is so astoundingly good, that very few in the world cares with what from country he is from.
