I figured out a long time ago that you could get to badeline at the end without jumping, with what I'll call a "5 climb" and a well timed up dash (as opposed to a "5 jump", the wall tech where you can jump from higher up on a wall than the highest position you can normally climb to, by jumping straight up and jumping again before madeline rests fully on the wall again; so a "5 climb" is getting to the edge pixel of a platform, walking off but doing a first frame turnaround, which allows you to grab the wall from the highest position and climb onto what looks like nothing). However, the beginning of the screen always eluded me. Obviously you have to do either a wallbounce or a wall jump. It seemed completely impossible to do without a jump input.

You could bend the rules of the challenge and call it "no ground jump", but that's just lame and not nearly as satisfying. I wanted no jumps at all.

Back when I tried to see if this was possible, I just really didn't see a way to make it to the double dash crystal without jumping. I turned on invincibility in assist to lab a bunch of stuff, but there's pretty much no way to gain speed or extend a diagonal over that bottom spinner wall without jumping.
Last night I was restless and decided to come back to it, thinking there was almost certainly no possible way, but knowing there still had to be stuff I hadn't thought of.

I also already knew about spike-clip techniques using watchtowers. This is where you scroll the screen far away from madeline, and during the brief time when it's scrolling back, you have invincibility to the hitboxes of spikes/spinners as long as madeline's hitbox is off screen. In fact, I used this technique in my farewell golden meme run.

One quick thing to know about the watchtower I use in the golden room is that if you scroll too far, the screen will blink and you won't gain movement until madeline is on screen. What we want is for it to do the thing where it doesn't blink, and instead scrolls back aallll the way back to madeline without blinking; when that happens, you regain movement roughly 0.3s after you input to exit the watchtower, and have a short period of invincibility while moving.

I can't remember if I toyed with the idea of using a watchtower clip in the past, but if I did, I wrote it off very quickly because it appears there's no way to get over that wall to the right of the watchtower. Upon my return to this challenge, I started heavily messing with the watchtower clip tech, and had the idea to get on top of the single tile that the spinner wall rests on. My initial idea was to do the watchtower thing, do an up-right dash asap and fastfall onto the very right edge of it, then immediately dash right and hopefully make it to the dash crystal. Unfortunately, scrolling the screen to the highest good pixel still left several frames of invincibility to be desired, although it was starting to become "close".

As I was testing this and similar ideas for an extended period with savestates, I realized that sometimes I could scroll the screen higher but not have it blink, and I quickly understood why.
I was trying strats where I would exit the watchtower then reenter it asap, seeing if that gave me more frames for some reason, but it turns out it doesn't.

HOWEVER, it DOES turn out that every time you do that immediate watchtower reentry from even just close to the highest you can scroll without it blinking, you increase how high you can scroll the watchtower without it doing the blink. Using this new and unbelievably silly tech, you can scroll the watchtower to its top barrier, and exit it without it blinking. This means it now has the full distance of the screen for it to scroll back, which is about 70%-100% more distance than the base maximum that the watchtower can scroll without blinking.
This *almost* gives you enough time to do that up-right dash strat I mentioned earlier, and perhaps it does actually, but I found the better strat not long after I began experimenting after this new discovery.

Remember that even with invincibility mode enabled, madeline won't climb into spike hitboxes, H O W E V E R, when madeline is doing the watchtower clip stuff and is off-screen, she's just unaware of spinner hitboxes entirely it seems, because she will actually climb on top of that single tile, INTO the spinner wall when she's off-screen! And it just so happens that the highest you can scroll the watchtower gives just enough frames for madeline to climb up and over that single tile, and be able to easily make an up-right dash over to the dash crystal. I can't believe there is actually a solution to this puzzle, let alone that I actually found it along with all this weird jank ass tech.


(1st Note: the climb over strat doesn't work every time, seems to only work like 10-15% of the time. I have no idea why this is. pls help)
(2nd Note: I did manage to somehow break the watchtower barrier once, which allowed me to see way past what you're normally able to, up to the empty area beyond the badeline orb. Sadly I didn't test much with this as I didn't know it wasn't easily replicable. I think if it could be replicated easily, it would make the climb over strat free.)

Wow, fascinating tech. I imagine that re-activating the watchtower at a certain vertical position could cause its upper bound to break. If both times were on stream, you could compare the instances to see if they have that in common. I wonder if you could scroll past horizontal watchtower barriers this way, as well.
