Not the reference to Radium Girls. 💀💀

For those not familiar, in 1914 they started using Radium in paint to make glow-in-the-dark paint. They would employ women to paint the dials of watches and clocks with Radium paint nicknamed Radium Girls. They would lick their paintbrush to get a fine point because people didn't know about the harmful effects of radiation back then. The Radium Girls would end up with dissolved jaws because of the radiation poisoning. even after they stopped licking the paint brushes being around that much Radium constantly caused a lot of other health problems.

If you have an antique watch with a glow in the dark dial, chances are the person who painted it died an early death. It should be mostly safe for you tho as long as you never open the watch. cause the Radium paint likes to flake and gets in the air. if you breathe it in you can get lung cancer.

To explain the grandpa, chromosome, and clock one::

-Shes depressed that the only phoyo she has if her grandpa is him looking like he just came from Whoville

-They were joking saying the second kid was born with an extra chromosome or two (meaning they've got down syndrome)

-Women used to work in factories painting clocks to glow in the dark using radium. Radium is super radioactive, and so them putting brushes in their mouthes caused several of them to be pousoned, for their jaws to melt off, etc.

So, the woman that were painting clocks had no clue but the paint used for the clocks was radioactive and it was used to make the clocks shine in the dark but they were putting it in their mouths….

For those that don’t get the one about clocks, in 1918 there was a company that started to paint clocks with radium to make them glow in the dark. It was later discovered that radium was highly radioactive and dangerous, but the workers at the time didn’t know that. They would often lick the brushes not knowing they were radioactive, and most of them died of radiation poisoning and had horrible deformations afterward.

For those who don't know, the licking the paintbrush one is a refrence to radium girls.

Radium was discovered by Marie Currie, a Polish woman and the first woman ever to win 2 nobel prizes. Radium, as a radioactive material, glows in the dark which made it usefull for sights and watches for soldiers during world war one, aswell as many civilian products beforehand like medicine or toothpaste. To get a fine tip, the girls were tasked to lick the pen in their factory while it was still covered in radium paint. Due to that, many of them got deseases such as phossy jaw or arthritis.
