DIY Personalized Cutting Board - How to BURN WOOD - Engraving wood!

Hi All ! Today's DIY is a all about wood burning ! I bought a wood burner from Michaels and since then, I've been obsessed with it.

You can personalized any gifts with this tool. It is a perfect wedding gift, house warming gift, and more ! It makes for great wedding favours, or DIY party favours that will make your guests go WOW !

I did a logo personalized cutting board and a personalized cheese plate. Be sure to protect the wood and buy oils, so that no bacteria will get into the wood grains !

Great idea. I would suggest one change though - draw the design on paper until you're happy with it, then trace it onto the working surface. To do this, use a softer pencil and scrub on the back on the finished design, then place the design on the working surface and using a harder pencil, trace over the design. The soft pencil marks on the back will thus be transfered to the working surface. This way you can refine the design without making a mess of the working surface.

You use a tin can to burn a perfect circle by holding the can with one hand and burning with the other. Square sardine cans work too. Paint can lids etc

Do you have to protect the burned design at all? Is it safe to use the cutting board and then wash it? I am concerned about whether or not it needs a protective varnish or something, and if so I am looking for something food safe. It clearly is wood so not dishwasher safe.

After applying your personalized letter or wording can you cut food on it. Also, have you used a Cricut machine for cutting your personalized letters and wording? Can you also put vinyl on the wood?

I also learned that you can print your design on laser printer. Immediately place on wood and use a hot iron transfer tip to transfer the design to the wood. Works slick. Dont forget to mirror your design before you print it or it will come out backwards.
