I watched both the remastered blu-ray and 4k, and I can tell the 4k is the best representation of the film negatives and has the most consistent grain structure! A little darker but refined detail as shane said!

A lot of the scenes were also much darker and heavy on magenta over the Bluray. For example the scene where Sonny Bunz pitches the restaurant idea to Paulie, 24:00 minute mark. The skin tones are poor in the UHD and Paulie's face almost completely fades into darkness. It lends completely different feeling to the scene and feels like they completely desaturated some of the color channels in that scene.

So finally got the titans of the cult 4k release because of steel and the copacabana badge. Wasn't expecting anything good about the pic quality but I am very pleasantly surprised how good the pic looks. I don’t know why the transfer is hated by reviewers almost everywhere. Its definitely better than the blu ray and no the difference is not only minimal. The black levels amd contrast is far superior than the blu ray. There is very little use of hdr in my opinion but to be honest this is Goodfellas. It is suppose to look not like a very polished movie.

I own the remastered blu ray and I can confirm this 4k release is awesome. It has a very fine film grain with very natual colors, amazing black levels and contrast and having the same raw look as Goodfellas should have. Anyone of you still holding off can buy with confidence. It looks good. It doesn't look like Casino on 4k and rightly so as Casino always have this vivid look due to its nature but to me this is the best representation of Goodfellas at the moment.

Not worth a double-dip if you own the bluray or DVD. :) Again...if it doesn't have amazing HDR video and either Atmos or DTS X...not worth getting in 4k.

I have never seen this movie but my dad wants me to watch it pretty badly. I own a 4kBluRay Sony UBP-800 and I have only like 2 discs (1.78 aspect ratio Christopher Nolan movies) Even if the transfer isn't that good, would the 4K still be a better option than the Blu-Ray?

Were you comparing the 4k disc to the old bluray or the newer bluray transferred from the 4k source?

Thanks shane for the review . I have a really deep technical question :

I going to buy the z9f Sony soundbar with the rear speakers but they don't sell the rear speakers in my country ( Saudi Arabia), so I'm going to order it from Amazon but the issue here it's a US Version, the sound bar is a middle east version which is 220v .
So the question is : can the rear speakers connect to the soundbar ?? Btw I already have emailed sony but no response yet
