Had a friend that was a recon. Didn't know that at the time. I was 27 Seth was also. After jeep broke down in woods Seth said I'll get help. 4 hours later he pulled up in his jeep. I was confused, he said he just ran through the woods, jogged 8 miles to town and drove his jeep back.

A quiet confidence but not arrogance... Another thing that they ALL have in common are "tree-trunk type legs"... Not bodybuilder type legs, thick legs trained for EXTREME endurance...

The first test of a Recon Marine is simply getting out of the rack on a Saturday morning after getting a full round of shots the day prior. Just putting a bit of wieght on your quads that morning knocked me to the floor. I failed that test miserably, can t imagine continuing on to the other tests, like the swimming. Thank God I got a second chance at being a scout when they gave me a map, compass and radio, with FO and FAC training. Amazing how much respect you get in the service when you been in the boy scouts and have ample skill in bush craft survival.

As a Radio Man in the Marine Corp (2531), I trained with the Recon 2nd Battalion. I was a good swimmer and therefore I was send to their radio department. It was not easy living in the woods for months at the time!!!

I was in the 3rd Recon Battalion, Quan Tri, South Vietnam in 1969. The jungle was nothing like the training @ Camp Pendleton.

Recommend doing a video of all the supporting elements, intel, coms etc., that support these types of units, covering the MOS and NECs that support expeditionary and special operations units. Few personnel on this site will ever go work in a dedicated SOF role, it's much more likely if they are going into the military and have interest in these types of missions they'll be intel/expeditionary support.

MCT is for Marines in any other MOS other than infantry. There they kesrn basic infantry skills. Recon Marines would enter the pipeline with a general specialty of 0300 and head to SOI under Infantry Training Battalion (ITB) and learn the basic skills but also more in depth skills. It is a 59 day program.
