Finally was able to get around to install this trailer brake kit. Truly plug 'n play. Installed effortlessly and caused no error codes. Only downside was having to contort my fat carcass in order to see what the heck I was doing. 😁
Tips for the next person installing this kit:
Stretch.
Find or acquire a loooong phillips head extension to install the bracket screws easier. I have one that's about 12" in length.
When installing the new controller in the lower dash section, make sure you have the little channel guide/slot aligned as you're pushing in to the click tabs.
The two knee bolster screws in my 2021 Ram 1500 (non Classic) were 7mm hex heads.
In order to remove the OBDII plug, there are click tabs at the top and bottom. Not the (4) tabs, (2) at each side of the plug.

I'm a pretty confident do it yourself and shade tree mechanic, but far from a "car guy". That being said, I'm always nervous about messing with anything that may impact the electronics on newer vehicles.
For this project, I got quotes on having the controller installed by the dealership, as well as two local trailer places. Knowing ahead of time that the parts could be had for less than $500, I was stunned that all 3 quotes were well over $1000. For that cost, I decided to give it a swing myself.
I watched this video several times, as well as a couple others from different suppliers. The process didn't seem too horrible. I elected to go with Infotainment because they also supplied the programming resource, which was ANOTHER $250 from the dealer on top of the hardware installation. Those guys can pack sand.
Anyway, the process for me was really similar to the video. A few points of my own:
- Other reviews say the inserts for the screws on the mounting bracket don't work. Not sure if I got an updated version, but I had zero issue with the inserts.
- As another mentioned, a long phillips head extension is a must for the bracket installation.
- For me, the process took about 2 hours. I attribute this to me taking my time, double and triple checking things, being very careful when removing the panels and front dash sections, and watching portions of the video several times just to be sure about next steps. I probably could have easily cut that down to an hour if I was more confident.
- Space beneath the dash was pretty tight for me. I'm 6'03" of average build, and had to contort myself a bit. I would take the extra step of completely removing the knee panel and getting it out of the way entirely.
- I didn't need to unplug everything on the dash as my truck had plenty of slack to easily maneuver the face and allow access to everything needed.
- Programming was very easy and painless. It literally took 30 seconds and proceeded exactly as it did in the video. Make sure you know the difference between your trucks "accessory" mode and "run" mode.... the programming will not work in "accessory".
Would gladly recommend this to anyone.
@Infotainment, send me a link and I'll add this review to your website.

All I can say is, I tried another seller. Had to go in and program with laptop. When I finished, I had a warning trailer brakes need service. I went back to the start, bought this kit. Installed per this video and everything works right. I went into settings on right of radio, set to light electric, set to stock trailer and saved. All is good for my 2020 Dodge Ram.

My truck came factory with a hitch and a 4 & 7 pin receptacle at the rear bumper. I assume there is no other wiring that needs to be done if you install this controller?

Does the 2019-2024 Ram 1500 brake controller package SKU C-BDLTBC-DT include everything needed for install and programming and factory parts? I think the price is $399

With your set up, we don't need to go into the set up on an OBD or laptop and set up the trailer name, brake type, and activate brake control module.

What is really frustrating is when you order and install which is not as easy as he makes it look in the video but then go to do the programmimg and it doesnt work.
