I was fortunate enough to hear him perform live in Boulder, CO last year and he blew me away, absolutely amazing. Was on the edge of my seat. Master musician. Thank you Ernie.

Yes, darkowin, that clip from Windows XP brought me here, too. I was wondering how it got into my old version iTunes in the first place. That Marc Seales line "Highway Blues" has such a killer head! And down here in LA we've had plenty of chances over the years to listen to Ernie Watts, like live with Quartet West at the LA County Museum. Once, I was sitting next next to a lady in the audience, and at the break Ernie came over and sat down on the other side of her. Oh, she's his wife! I was raving about his lower register sound on ballads -- so liquid, full, and deep. Ernie laughed and said he liked to work out on cello sonata parts!

Damn. Everyone's in the pocket and they stay there the whole time. What a solid rhythm section backing up Mr Watts.

Thank you so much!
The fact that a true LEGEND like Ernie Watts plays ok the head of this very demanding tune, but not "perfect", it's uplifting and says some tings, as:
-the craftmanship of Diz, Bird and the first bopers in composing and playing is more extraterrestrial even
-sometimes, some people in modern jazz is so focused in "formal perfection" and thought lines that heart, soul, tone and pulse fall down the toilet. Ernie knows "perfectly" what really matters
-(and he improved the head in the recap, btw)
-long life to the human factor!

Great to see and hear Ernie is still in top form. I go back to his days with Cannonball.

Ernest's saxophone is made to give out more Watts than an electric power station - with speed faster than lightning.

I can see those African spirits that have come out to dance like Skylarks in the sky.

Go, Ernie!

Quite a long way from "Bag OF Wonder", your (Pop) Tribute to Stevie Wonder.

The Randy of Brecker is on the Move a la Clifford Brown and a la Freddie Hubbard.
