I like that pinterest is more about the outfit and creativity than someone’s lifestyle or likes (especially compared to other social media) - at least that’s how I perceive it. I definitely bought some things off of pinterest and was influenced to buy similar pieces from outfits I pinned. Some filled a gap in my wardrobe others not so much. I think pinterest can also be really helpful for finding different ways to style and wear things you already have but it can also suck you in and make you believe that you don’t have anything nice to wear, that’s why I frequently take breaks from it.

I don't think I've bought anything specifically from Pinterest, but I do get influenced by aesthetics. Sometimes it's good, and helps me find my personal style over time. Cottagecore helped me realise I like wearing long skirts. My fashion board at the moment is mostly expensive-looking dresses that I have no intention of wearing, I just like looking at them! PS: your editing style is really pretty <3

I know this isn’t the point of the video but just wanted to say that, tho i do enjoy Pinterest and it’s a calming environment for me vs. the rest of the platforms, I don’t think it is as “Edit: HARMLESS” as people usually say. One of the things that I hate the most about Pinterest is the lack of context and how easy it is for fishy content to spread, like diet stuff and “do this to make your waist smaller” kind of posts. Also really bad skincare and sometimes bad workout advice. I know we’re supposed to be mindful and analytic when consuming content overall but it’s just so easy, specially for a young impressionable audience, to see a post on Pinterest and think “wow this is totally true I’m gonna risk my physical health trying these exercises and recipes to match the beauty standard”

ahh I love Pinterest so much. It’s definitely one of the kinder social medias (maybe not to our wallets tho😂). I love finding inspiration, but sometimes I also get burnt out always looking at new items. A double edged sword for sure!
You deserve so many more views, your vids are always so informative!❤

as someone who's sworn off buying new-produced(?) clothes unless for a specific cause, i have never been swayed to buy something from pinterest. if i get better economy i might order custom-/hand-made things online someday. but i love browsing pinterest for outfit combo inspiration and specific garment sewing/modifying ideas.

Great video :), I would like to add that goth and punk aren't styles/aestethics, they're subcultures. I get if you're not interested in theses most of the times you won't really know, but I think it reduces them to surface-level visuals, ignoring their deeper cultural/ideological significance. Theses subcultures are rooted in resistance to mainstream norms, treating them as simple fashion choices erases the social critique that they bring. I feel like this oversimplification reduces them by monetizing them for consumer culture/trends.

the funny thing is i've tricked my pinterests bc I'm an artist so I've saved a VARIETY of clothes for when I'm ready to practice drawing different styles and fabrics. Not only that, I'm a writer first and formost even before I got serious about art. So I was looking at fashion pictures for my characters since the beginning

Such an insightful video!! <3 I've been struggling with feeling like Pinterest is dampening my personal style. I find myself referencing Pinterest way more than I have in the past. Maybe it's time to challenge myself and get dressed without it for a while 😅

Along with fashion i use Pinterest more so for book inspo and finding sewing patterns. It’s so versatile for anyone and being able to organise your wants or likes on pins and collages is very favourably

I just started using pinterest for fashion inspo after watching your personal style video. i’d used it for apartment inspo but never for clothes. so far it’s ok, i see a lot more things i like on other people than things i would want for myself. but that’s still good data! i’ll continue to like, subscribe, and share so hopefully you can get your sneakers soon ❤

imo the great thing about thrifting is i know i'm unlikely to find any particular exact items and i don't have control over what's there. so instead of being influenced to buy something, i might be influenced to be more open to considering a type of item if i happen upon it. i might try on something i wouldn't otherwise, but i don't think that's a bad thing, and i'm only gonna buy it if i like it and the price is good, and if those are the case and it's secondhand, why not try something out? i like seeing inspiration that helps me consider different options for styling and for how something i might usually pass by could fit my style.

I've never bought anything from Pinterest. I don't know if it's only me that feels this way, but oftentimes I feel that I already "own" something if I've pinned it on Pinterest. It seems like putting an image into a folder is enough for me most of the time, and I don't feel like I need to own the thing outside of that folder. Is that weird? But - I do get influenced by the styles and outfits I see, so I might thrift something inspired by an image on Pinterest, or I will knit something I see on Pinterest. Often I use it to get inspo to style clothes I already own in my closet. I've noticed that many of the outfits and styles are, like you say, not really realistic, so I've been documenting what I wear and how I feel in those outfits during the day, and then making some kind of a capsule wardrobe out of the things I'm already wearing based on this. I don't want to feel like I'm wearing a costume, I want to feel like myself in the clothes.

Pinterest introduced me to corduroy pants and I wanted to thrift a pair ever since, but they were always in sizes that are too small for me. Now that I've had years to think about those pants... I don't think I could pull them off with the rest of the clothes in my wardrobe, and what i really liked about them was that they were always part of whimsical outfits.

perhaps outrageous outfits are artistic expression or fashion forward. Fashion is always pushed out by big cities🤷

Funny thing, when I started on Pinterest I only really pinned pretty outfits I had no reason to wear, then Pinterest started showing me wearable versions of them which made me happy (made my bank account sad though)
