We have crossed a lot of borders by land, air, and sea.  But never have we ever had anything as stunning, or as memorable, as this crossing from England to Wales by narrowboat.

If I had to describe navigating the Llangollen canal in one sentence, it would be: High action in slow motion.  The first 11 miles are designated as a world heritage site for its beauty and historic engineering…and it’s easy to see why.

Join us today as we cross the stream in the sky (aka the highest aqueduct in the world), go through the longest, darkest tunnel in Wales and make our way to the source of it all, horseshoe falls.  This is the day we’ve been waiting for and the whole reason we choose this canal as our first narrowboat adventure.  And no, it won’t be our last!

WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales.

We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us.

Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so.

We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste.

Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity

Doh, 🙈 we put in the wrong flag for England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿! If we’re ever allowed back in the country, Jason will wear a budgie smuggler with the proper flag on it as retribution. 🩲

Awwww 😍😍😍 It was such a pleasure to spend time with you both! And I’m so pleased you had a blast on the canal. You’ve captured the joy of narrowboating perfectly 😀

Funny, I’m from the US and I’ve never heard it called a beer engine. It’s what’s on tap, and sometimes what’s on the nitrogen tap.

This may have been my all time favorite episode. Just fantastic, the adventure, the scenery, the overall event. Thank you for taking me along on the trip together. Loved it!

Beer hand pumps are technically called engines in UK too, but hardly anyone would refer to them as such unless they had experience in the trade. The beer engine was invented in 1691 by John Lofting, a dutch inventor. Using the term "tap" should refer to a beer cask on a trestle with a tap fitted to dispense the beer, but has become shorthand for any cask beer, however dispensed. The real sacrilege comes from dispensing beer with a pressurised CO2 system and such beverages should be avoided.

Hi guys, the channel you are on prior to crossing the Leek Aqueduct (not bridge) is a relining project I worked on in the early 90's, the basin at the other end of the bridge is one of mine too, various relining projects projects between Leek and the Fron were mine too. Also the approach to the Fron iron aqueduct was aproject I worked on as was most of the basin on the other side plus on and off up the feeder canal to LLangollen. Fun fact, whilst installing joints at each end of the Fron I had to return to my office in a blzzard so walked across in the bottom of the trough. Nicely shot video. Mike B

I have watched many different narrow boat videos. Your work is by far the best. Between the happy banter and video production. Well done

I am literally astonished that my one time favourite Polynesian sailors are cruising U.K. canals. Absolutely love it.

i've been a bartender in the US from 1998 til 2020 - never heard a form of beer pour called an engine. we all have different names for things - but i started out in San Francisco, then FL - for most of it, it was Atlanta, GA. we love craft beers, we make quite a few. "craft", "barrel", "cask" - i had to look engine up. :)

When in Wales ( Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau) as a tourist you must try "Welsh Rarebit".

The UK nearly lost access to its canals in the ‘80s and ‘90’s. Fortunately enough people realized that they were great for recreational boating and the government (and lots of volunteers) worked to rescue most of them. The Llangollen canal was definitely my favourite. So good to go down memory lane with you both. Thank you.😊
