"Untitled Saturday"
Reinforced Records
Written & Produced by
D.Stanton, J.Norman and M.Leeson 1996.
So late Spring 1995 we went to Dollis Hill and sat in the tiny cupboard 4Hero occupied on 287-289 Chapter Road (from memory). The old place was knocked down a few years ago, but had an impressive roster of talent pass through; Acen and Dice, Lemon D, Leon Mar and of course all things Reinforced. I won't discuss much of how it went, but we met everybody, the names I had read so many times shouted on the Reinforced labels. It was a teenagers dream come true. Only the Christmas before I gave Jaimie two hilarious cards, one from Danny and all at Sub-Base, and the other from Marc, Ian, Dego and Gus.
As a result from this meeting we knew we had to invest in the right gear for the job. The Amiga was affordable and easy to learn and got us noticed. But now we had to step up. It had only been two years since the guy at Parliment Records in Hitchin gave us the advise that the only way to get into 'the circle' was to make music and swap dubs, and that the Amiga was the cheapest and quickest way into that world.
Now onto this track, made in one Saturday night, the guitar, pad and main beat were from Future Music (have I highlighted how important this publication was yet?), with some of the additional noises from some Simon Harris Breaks, Beats and Scratches LP's, to add some B-Boy flavour. We had a controller keyboard with no sounds, but for the first time a pitch and modulation wheel, so I relished the use of it on the main pad. It's very derivative of Creative Source, Precious Materials, Alex Reece and Wax Doctor in general. So much so that both used sounds from this record (from the same FM CD possibly) on their own records. This was recorded in December 1995 and released in April 1996, and was mainly me and Matty. It has the Program/Mist From Mars pad chucked in too. There is something weird in the breaks, (one of which is from that Lionel Richie 'Destiny' track) where maybe too much is left on or too little from the start point taken off, making them loop incorrectly, but the vibe is there. I can still listen and be proud of it.
