Jimmy Connors: Tennis' Ultimate Maverick

Commentator Bud Collins nicknamed him the ‘Brash Basher of Belleville’ – and through a mammoth 24-year career, Jimmy Connors certainly lived up to that moniker.

Jimmy Connors’ approach to tennis was to take everything – his opponent, the umpire, the crowd, his shots – head on.

His attitude at times split opinions, but he also wowed with his daring shot-making, remarkable resilience and phenomenal success.

Hated and adored, but never ignored – a phrase made for James Scott Connors.

Mr. Excitement. PERIOD. And Connors is the main guy who brought the really big prize money into the (the a-hole sponsors and tournament officials felt it was okay to award the winner of a major tourney a check for 10 to 20 grand, which Connors felt was an insult) this, EVERY champion of EVERY tournament every year should send Connors a check for 1% of the prize money.
