Vietnamese people have a fairy tale about Hoa Mai( Yellow Apricot).The story is about a kind and brave girl. She fought a monster to protect the villagers. Unfortunately, she died after the battle. Her bravery touched the Gods. So, although she died, every New Year comes, she is revived to visit her family and her village for 9 days. When her parents died, she transformed into a flowering tree. Every time the New Year comes, the flowers bloom brightly like the yellow shirt she usually wears. That is Hoa Mai( Yellow Apricot).
Vietnamese people believe that, on Tet holiday, Hoa Mai( Yellow Apricot) can banish ghosts throughout the year.

Người Việt Nam có câu chuyện cổ tích về Hoa Mai (Hoa mai vàng), câu chuyện kể về một cô gái tốt bụng và dũng cảm. Cô đã chiến đấu với một con quái vật để bảo vệ dân làng. Thật không may, cô ấy đã chết sau trận chiến. Sự dũng cảm của cô đã khiến các vị Thần cảm động. Vì vậy, dù đã mất nhưng mỗi dịp Tết đến xuân về, bà đều được hồi sinh về thăm gia đình, làng xóm 9 ngày. Khi cha mẹ cô qua đời, cô biến thành một cái cây có hoa. Mỗi khi Tết đến, hoa nở rực rỡ như chiếc áo vàng chị thường mặc. Đó là Hoa Mai (mai vàng).
Người Việt quan niệm rằng, ngày Tết, Hoa Mai (mai vàng) có thể xua đuổi ma quỷ trong cả năm.
