The Story of Perth Part One [full film]

The Story of Perth is a three hour, two part documentary film series on the history of Perth, Ontario, Canada.

This film, "Part One: The First Hundred Years" in its entirety covers the story from 1816 to 1916,. Part Two picks up during World War I and brings it right up to the summer of 2015.

The films feature numerous fascinating stories from throughout the town's 199 year history. The stories are told by many well know "Perthites" in on-screen interviews, and are supported by over 100 historic photos and lots of gorgeous high definition video of the places and events in modern day Perth.

Very informative and nostalgic history of Perth over the last 200 years! My dad owned Grainger Motor Service first on Craig street next to the Last Duel park and finally Gore Street next to our home. Denny Marks and John McGenty spoke about the numerous service stations in the 1960’s but Dad built his business on auto and truck repairs and not so much on gas and oil.
It was a wonderful town to raise a family with generous and friendly neighbors. Even though many will move on in later life I hope Perth continues to attract young people to do the same.

It's a fascinating story of setting up a town in the "middle of nowhere" with such interesting water connections (and problems) and pioneering people. The story of the whole Rideau lands is fascinating!

I come from Ferriers (Abraham Ferrier 1807-1879 and was one of the original pioneers that were sent to survey the land north of rideau and was one of the people who after surveying that area drafted a letter to the lieutenant-Governer of Upper Canada, Sir Francis Gore asking to settle bay of quinte instead but that request was denied! And they were sent to settle the land north of Rideau) and McNaughtons (Duncan sr first and then Duncan jr, who had one of the original Mcnaughton farms on Mcnaughton shores. The hamlet of Tennyson was born on a corner of his property and he and his brother john were the first to settle there). Have a book that was my great grandfather Ira Duncan Mcnaughtons called The Pioneer History of Lanark County. Its so cool seeing family names in there and reading about their journey. Planning a trip to Perth now that theres even more to see for me history-wise❤ a very, very beautiful place so rich in history

This is fascinating to me. My great great grandfather Michael Lacey Cahill was a private in the British 19th Dragoons. He came with his family from Ireland to Perth in 1817 on a military land grant. By 1824 their crops had been consumed by grasshoppers, and they moved to Huntington Twp Carleton county (Ottawa) to the area of Shirley's Bay. Michael's wife Anne Shirley had a brother living there. Subsequently they moved to l'ile du Grand Calumet (Calumet Island) 60 miles up the Ottawa River where they settled permanently. For the next 200 years Cahills farmed on Calumet Island, near the village of Dunraven.

My great great grandfather, Sutton Frizell, had a land grant and settled in Drummond Township in 1821. He emigrated with his mother, Suzannah, and brother, Richard, from Old Ross, Wexford, Ireland. The original homestead is on Tennyson Road and a significant amount of land was held by the Frizell's in that area.
