If you're going that deep, remove the AFM lifters and solenoid cover, change the oil pump to a standard one and never worry about it again. The internals on the LS swap over pretty easy. Would also be a good time to put in a non AFM cam. Surprisingly easy to rebuild one of these engines

What about removing the safety relief valve and adding a plug in the oil pan?

If you’re in Metro Atlanta area, for same price or less than the cost of a Range module.. get a base tune.
✅More power
✅Raised speed governor
✅Quicker trans shifts
✅Less pedal lag for DBW
✅Disable V4 mode on AFM engines highly recommended with no loss in mpg.
✅Adjust for bigger tires & or gear change
GM 99 to 2015 with 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 & 6.2 great value for $150.
Newer Years DM your year and model for pricing.

This is performed by recalibration of the drivetrain computer(s). Completed usually within 20 minutes.

great info... I believe a greater volume pump would be a improvement over stock... AFM delete and a slightly improved cam would make a very dependable runner...

After this operation will the patient still need 8 quarts oil?

If you’re in the metro Atlanta area I disable this feature for $150 up to 2016 models.
2017 & 2018 add $100.
Less pedal lag, raised speed limiter and more power included at no additional charge.

Does the oil bypass in the pan have to be plugged?

Pour in marvels mystery oil or sea foam in your crankcase but not both at the same time be sure to read the instructions ....your problem is sticky engine deposits that keeps the lifter cup in a stuck down position leaving clearance for the push rod to rattle around and then tap when the clearance is taken up

I did a DOD delete and plugged the holes and used a flat-type manifold cover. My question is what do I do with the electrical connector that plugged into the DOD factory manifold. I have a 2009 Pontiac g8gt. Thanks

I have a question and hopefully I can get a solid answer. I have a range dod disabler and a non afm valley installed but still running the dod lifters and cam. Blocking the oil tunnels going to cause problems with the engine or build up pressure and activate the lifters. Thanks in advance.

My local tune shop wants 1000 (cdn) to tune out dod if I replace the cam/lifters in my 2017 Sierra. They want 450 just to turn it off. Why the significant increase in price?
Why cant you just replace the afm lifters with normal roller lifters, leave the oe dod cam, and simply turn off the system?

I got a 2010 Silverado.

Never had 1 issue up till this week and -20 reg air temp. Now I'm getting the p3400 code which is this. Can cold mess with dod and afm?

I have no tic no tap it did fall on its face and miss. A few times. Would cold mess with it at all? 141k never ever missed a beat. Up to literally now

Too bad GMC didn't just step up and fix the problem for us when it was under warranty and complained out the lifter noise.

I have a 2011 Sierra and truck is just sluggish with the afm when it kicks into v4 mode .. doesn’t tick much at all unless it’s super cold out .. it has 170k on it now .. would it be hurting something or potentially end up hurting something if I just do the plug in afm dod DISABLER? Or would I essentially be pissing in the wind ??

Hey Scoggin, i just done a DOD/AFM delete on my 2007 Suburban 5.3... Its a Texas Speed kit that comes with everything "Cam, lifters, valley cap etc" after startup i have smoke "doesn't smell like oil or anything" and does have power starts right up and runs so smooth @ idle but under throttle it acts like its running on 4 cylinders instead of 8. Will I need my suburban tuned to get rid of this issues or is the issues somewhere else?

Quick question this might be a little bit off topic but what do you think about getting a range for a 2020 suburban to get rid of the V 4 mode

Good Video! I have a 2007 tahoe with 180, 000miles, I installed the AFM range disabler and replaced the updated valve cover back when I bought the tahoe, close to 8 years ago! The last six months ive noticed higher than usual oil consumption and a strong vacuum from the oil fill cap when car is running. Local shop did a quick check on the pcv valve and completed a smoke test for leaks all good there. They even checked the compression on the cylinders and also ok, there's no check engine codes, no white smoke from the tailpipe and no other noise that would indicate failing lifters. They shop said oil rings are the culprit for the oil consumption. My question for you guys is do you agree with the diagnostic and what is your recommendation moving forward, make repairs now or is there something else that could be done before they open her up?
