It was introduced for people who are blind. So when it was a fast sound they could walk & when it turned red the speed of it is slower. Pretty cool hey.

Another interesting fact is, when people started to live within the city of Melbourne in certain areas, they had to lower the sound as it was to loud over the night time as people could hear it way up in some of there appartments.

The irony is that their Dad went on tour with them, and in Melbourne, he went for a walk and came back to the hotel they were staying in, telling them he wanted to show them the crazy sound the paedestrian crossings made.
