Guide dogs are actually trained to recognise this sound so it knows when to cross the road, at least here in Australia.

Melbournian here. If Billie likes quirky street sounds, just wait til she hears the tram bells!

I have been in Australia all my life and they are everywhere here. I assumed they were a global thing. Not just for Aussies.

Melbourne girl here.. This sound is so ingrained in my psyche that I'd recognise it ANYWHERE!!. So cute that something so unique to us made into a Billie Eilish track! 😂😂😂

Just got to Melbourne 2 days ago after an 18 hour direct flight from Dallas and hearing it in person was fun and worth the trip.

It was introduced for people who are blind. So when it was a fast sound they could walk & when it turned red the speed of it is slower. Pretty cool hey.

Another interesting fact is, when people started to live within the city of Melbourne in certain areas, they had to lower the sound as it was to loud over the night time as people could hear it way up in some of there appartments.

Big G’day to all from down under in Melbourne. 🇦🇺🙃

The irony is that their Dad went on tour with them, and in Melbourne, he went for a walk and came back to the hotel they were staying in, telling them he wanted to show them the crazy sound the paedestrian crossings made. They had to patiently explain to Eilish Snr that was the sound that helped win them a Grammy.

That even in Perth too and it’s amazing it was in that song

As an Aussie I thought that was a thing everywhere

As an Australian I always ignore this sound and cross the road without any regard. Just like Billie Eilish's music.

Other Australian cities too i think. Im in Melbourne and HATE the sound, but it's for blind or low vision people to hear it over the traffic, but it sounds great in the song.

We would always dance to the traffic light sound at the intersections on the way home from raving in the 90s., 😂
